Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Commercial Construction Superintendent with expertise in managing ground-up and renovation projects for big box retail stores. The ideal candidate will oversee all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires exceptional leadership, organizational skills, and a deep understanding of big box retail construction. Key Responsibilities: Project Oversight: Manage day-to-day on-site operations for big box retail construction projects, including ground-up and remodels. Ensure adherence to project plans, specifications, and schedules. Oversee site preparation, utility installations, building erection, and interior fit-outs. Quality Assurance: Maintain the highest standards of workmanship and compliance with project specifications. Conduct regular inspections to ensure quality control at all stages of construction. Address punch list items and oversee project closeout to achieve client satisfaction. Team Leadership: Direct and coordinate the work of subcontractors, suppliers, and on-site personnel. Foster a collaborative environment, ensuring clear communication and teamwork. Lead on-site meetings to discuss progress, address challenges, and align on goals. Scheduling and Coordination: Develop and maintain construction schedules, ensuring milestones are achieved. Coordinate with the project manager, subcontractors, and suppliers to address potential delays. Proactively resolve scheduling conflicts and prioritize critical tasks. Client and Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary on-site representative for clients, architects, and consultants. Provide regular updates on project progress, milestones, and challenges. Ensure alignment between client expectations and project execution. Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to job site safety protocols and OSHA regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to maintain a safe work environment. Ensure all construction activities comply with local building codes and permitting requirements. Budget and Cost Control: Work closely with the project manager to monitor project budgets and control costs. Approve subcontractor invoices, time sheets, and change orders. Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality. Problem-Solving and Risk Management: Anticipate and address construction challenges to prevent delays and cost overruns. Resolve issues related to subcontractors, materials, or site conditions promptly. Develop contingency plans to address unexpected changes or risks. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma required; a degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred. Experience: 4 years of experience as a superintendent in commercial construction, with a focus on big box retail projects. Proven track record of managing large-scale projects from start to finish. Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes. Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project). Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Certifications: OSHA 30-hour certification required; additional certifications (e.g., LEED, PMP) are a plus.
