Qualifications • Technology Transfer or relevant business experience 6 years experience in technology transfer or equivalent business experience. (Required) And • Drafting and negotiating contracts. 5 years demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating contracts. (Required) And • Supervising professional staff Demonstrated experience supervising professional staff. (Required) • Ability to analyze technical data using logic and quantitative reasoning. Skilled in problem definition, issue identification, alternative formulation, and resolution selection after evaluating implementation implications (Required) • General knowledge of accounting principles and finance. Strong grasp of the basic financial principles such as net present value necessary to value technology and develop business terms for license. (Required) • Expert knowledge of University patent, equity, and publication rights policies. Ability to interpret and explain University policies, government regulations, and provisions of the Bayh Dole Act and Tax Reform Act of 1986 and their impact on intellectual property ownership from University research. (Required) • Expert knowledge of copyright and patent law and demonstrated understanding of the technical and legal issues affecting protection, use and exploitation of intellectual property. (Required) • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills. (Required) • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse,multicultural, environment interacting frequently with faculty members, staff, students, and research community representatives. (Required) • Must possess scientific knowledge in the areas of research being conducted by University researchers in order to evaluate the scientific and novel aspects of the invention and to effectively communicate with the researchers, industry and patent counsel. (Required) • Must have broad industry knowledge in order to evaluate the potential commercial application of the invention and identify licensees. (Required) • Must possess advanced business and financial knowledge to assess the suitability of the potential industry licensee and to negotiate the business and commercial terms of the agreements. (Required) • Must have in depth knowledge of United States and foreign patent laws in order to develop effective patent strategies and to communicate and instruct outside patent counsel. (Required) • Must be familiar with legal and business contracts and procedures in order to prepare license agreements and other documents which may obligate the University for up to 20 years and which may generate millions of dollars in licensing revenue. (Required) • Must possess the capability of dealing with University academic and administrative staff, attorneys and business professionals in order to facilitate the complex relationships and manage and administer the resulting legal agreements.
