GUTCHESS LUMBER CO., INC. PLANT ELECTRICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION The Plant Electrician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of all plant electrical equipment and controls, including but not limited to control power, VFDs, PLCs, MDPs, and 1 300HP motors. Location: Cortland, NY (1st Shift/ 2nd Shift) Responsibilities: Perform all plant electrical maintenance and installations. Conduct control modifications as required. Manage stores inventories. Address emergency repairs promptly to minimize production disruption. Execute repairs or maintenance based on written maintenance requests. Supervise preventative electrical maintenance programs. Oversee spare parts and supplies inventories to ensure availability during equipment breakdowns. Plan and coordinate electrical maintenance activities, prioritizing critical needs. Participate in planning and installation of new facilities or modifications to existing facilities related to electrical equipment and controls. Record time and materials for all repairs and projects. Install plant electrical equipment including conduit, wiring, controls, motors, and gearmotors. Maintain security of company assets, equipment, tools, inventories, and buildings. Supervise assigned personnel, including scheduling work assignments, recording activities, and ensuring accountability for hours worked. Train personnel to develop electrical skills and promote safe work habits. Develop and train an assistant. Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of facilities and work areas. Implement and manage electrical maintenance program to minimize production downtime. Conduct regular inspections of electrical equipment and maintain documentation. Troubleshoot electrical issues and develop procedures for equipment controls. Train identified personnel in installation and maintenance of electrical equipment. Review and approve purchases in accordance with company policies. Adhere to safety protocols and ensure safe work practices around electrical equipment. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in electrical maintenance preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance. Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems and controls. Knowledge of electrical codes, commercial, residential, and industrial regulations. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams. Experience with motor control centers, VFDs, PLCs, and other industrial electrical equipment. Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to electrical work. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively. Flexibility to work overtime and respond to emergency repair needs as required. Safety: Use proper procedures to accomplish maintenance tasks safely. Provide training on safe procedures for working with electrical equipment. Always verify circuits are de-energized before maintenance using a reliable meter. Promote and enforce safe practices around electrical equipment.
