POSITION OVERVIEW The Westminster Schools is committed to providing the best fit technology resources and solutions in support of the school's mission. The IT Services department is responsible for monitoring the technology needs of the school, evaluating new and emerging technologies, and providing resources necessary to enhance communication for all members of the school community. The IT Services Audio Visual Engineer leads the various decision-making capacities related to classroom, office, conference, and auditorium audio/visual and multimedia technology. They report directly to the Chief Information Officer and serves as a leader of the A/V support team. They work closely with other members of the IT Services department to deliver the expected strategic benefits to the Westminster Schools. This position provides event and campus A/V support with a strong customer service commitment and user satisfaction as the goal. This position has four major areas of responsibility: Sets-up, operates, troubleshoots, and maintains, audio/visual equipment in campus event spaces and external venues to support planned events. Supports students, faculty, staff, and external constituents in the use of A/V equipment while delivering top-notch customer service. Provides occasional live audio mixing for events or engages third party vendors to support Recommends and procures new audio/visual equipment that meets the needs of current and new physical spaces that also integrate with the core information technology infrastructure. Supervisor: Chief Information Officer Supervisory Responsibilities: None Position Status: This position is a salaried, nonexempt, full time, 12-month position. Hours of Work: Typical hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm, M-F. Some evening work will be required. Saturday work may occur. Westminster is a drug-free, smoke-free campus. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Communicates and interacts effectively with a diverse community Manages and maintains inventory of all event A/V equipment and identifies needs for upgrades or purchases Coordinates the scheduling of A/V resources for on-campus and off-campus events Coordinates, and prioritize urgent and complex A/V projects Sets-up, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and inventories analog and digital A/V equipment, including but not limited to audio mixers (up to 64 channels), wireless and wired microphones, powered and amplifier-driven speakers, playback and recording devices, projectors, audio and video switchers, and control panels. Meets with users to assess and plan for events, mixing live audio in various venues (20 simultaneous channels), assisting presenters in connecting computers and other devices to A/V systems, troubleshooting computer/device configurations, delivering and setting up projectors and portable sound systems in various venues. Replacing lamps, resetting lamp timers and cleaning air filters, and replacing broken equipment when needed, including rewiring, reprogramming, and reinstallation of A/V equipment once repaired. Configures and operates Crestron, Extron, and Lutron control systems. Installs and configures Epson projectors Coordinates with live streaming team for various events Provides technical expertise, consultation, and support for users in the selection and use of A/V equipment and software (including video conferencing, presentation, and sound systems). Performs technical assistance, including researching and testing potential solutions, and clearly communicating these to the user. Provides direct user support by answering phones, responding to user requests sent via email, ticketing system, or in person; visit classrooms and other campus venues to assist users in person when needed. Provides input and feedback to improve service, including collaborating with other IT Services team members to create documentation for IT Services staff and end users. Provides backup to client services colleagues when necessary. Stays current with system information, changes, and updates. S.) from four-year college or university preferred. Other requirements include: Thorough knowledge of and experience in installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of analog and digital A/V equipment, including: multi-channel audio mixing in live event production environments using analog and digital boards (64 channels or more, mixing 20 simultaneous channels) wired and wireless analog, digital, and networked microphone systems, including installed and touring/portable systems, for reproduction of vocals, acoustic, electric, and electronic instruments setup, operation, and takedown of portable/touring audio systems for amplification of speech and vocal and instrumental music operation and troubleshooting of classroom and event technology including video projectors, sound systems, automation and control systems, and interactive technologies connection, configuration, and troubleshooting of computer-driven content sources with installed and portable projection, audio, and video systems production lighting systems, including installation, focus, and control systems connection and operation in both temporary and fixed configurations 2 years minimum experience with Apple and Microsoft desktops/laptops A valid driver’s license is required Advanced knowledge or vendor certification in configuration and operation of Yamaha and Shure professional audio products. Advanced knowledge or vendor certification in configuration and operation of Epson projection systems preferred Crestron experience required Zoom and other video conferencing technologies experience required Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation, with the ability to work as a flexible, collaborative, and supportive team member, while excelling in a fast-paced service environment. Intellectual flexibility, technical curiosity, and a sense of humor, including the ability to learn independently. Must be available and able to work evening and weekend hours as needed to support events. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity, both indoors and out. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud. TRAVEL Required travel is primarily associated with planned events, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
