Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Building Services Date Posted: 7/24/2024 Location: Maintenance Date Available: TBD District: Chatham County Public Schools Organization: Chatham County Schools - Maintenance Department Position Job Title: Painter III Nature of Work: This position performs painting services required to maintain, improve, and provide a functional and safe learning environment for students, staff, and the public. Employee applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect the surfaces of buildings, fixtures, and equipment. Employee receives limited supervision and as an experienced painter, is expected to resolve most issues independently. Employee operates equipment such as lifts. Work is assigned by written or oral work requests. Employee also provides contractor oversight on large painting projects. Employee assists other employees/trades and performs a variety of general maintenance and manual labor tasks as needed. Employee practices safe work procedures. Essential Duties Assigned To This Position: Prepares surfaces, removes old finishes, and fills holes, cracks and joints. Prepares and applies patching plaster/drywall as needed. Removes fixtures, such as switch covers. Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings. Covers windows, door frames, and baseboards with masking tape. Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level. Prepares surfaces and determines correct paint materials to prevent peeling and flaking. Observes/monitors contracted work and gives directions for corrections. Determines and requests type and quantities of materials needed. Maintains record of all paint types/colors and where they are used. Performs general maintenance and manual labor tasks as needed. Assists other employees/trades as needed. Maintains material and man-hour records. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of standard practices and materials of the painting trade. Skill in matching and blending paint colors. Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools used in the painting trade. Considerable knowledge of the use of a variety of hand and power tools. Ability to move objects and perform the functions of the position. Ability to keep accurate records for material purchases and man-hour expenditures. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Training, Experience, and Special Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. 5 years of considerable and progressively advanced experience in painting. Must hold a valid NC driver's license.
