Salary: $18.59 Hourly Location : Beaumont, TX Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 5639 Department: Public Works Department Division: Streets & Drainage Opening Date: 09/06/2024 Duties and Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Performs skilled manual tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and new construction of concrete streets, sidewalks, ramps, curbs, gutters, catch basins, manholes, surface inlets, curb inlets, junction boxes and riprap; operates such equipment as an air compressor, concrete saw, concrete mixer, chain saw, gas detector, electric drill and laser level; operates hand tools required to form, construct and finish concrete; replenishes supplies; may supervise lower-level employees;. Other Job Functions: Light vehicle maintenance; cleans tools; washes vehicles. Performs other duties as required. Working Conditions Works outside in all kinds of weather including extreme cold, heat and temperature swings; is exposed to extreme and constant noise; works in trenches/ditches and manholes; is exposed to mechanical and explosive hazards; expose to fumes/odors, dust/mites, chemicals and gas vapors. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Must be available to work extended hours as needed. Subject to 24 hour call out. Position considered essential during emergency situations. Minimum Essential Qualifications Knowledge : Thorough knowledge of manual tasks required for area of work assignment including knowledge of concrete form building and steel reinforcement of concrete roadways and drainage structures, concrete finishing techniques, grade setting and safety procedures. Skills/Abilities: Advanced skill in the use and operation of hand and power tools such as concrete saws, chain saws, circular saws, bull floats, screeds, trowels, rebar benders, tampers, groovers, edgers, brooms, shovels and rakes as well as other equipment applicable to assignments; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and during unfavorable weather conditions; ability to read and write and follow oral and written instructions; ability to interpret maps and sketches; ability to operate laser levels; ability to form, prepare, pour and finish concrete pavement and drainage structures; ability to make simple mathematical calculations; ability to make decisions and plan job tasks. Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs., drags, pulls, pushes, lifts objects weighing up to 100 lbs., squats, stands, stoops, kneels, twists body, walks, climbs, drives vehicle and writes by hand; infrequently cleans, crawls and sits. Education/Experience: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Minimum five (5) years of experience performing tasks associated with the construction and repair of concrete roadways, concrete drainage structures and related facilities, including extensive knowledge of concrete finishing. Other Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
