Senior Estimator - Solar/PV

The Sr. Estimator position will be responsible for delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality estimates of complex and large utility scale solar projects. The Sr. Estimator is the single point of accountability for the completion of conceptual and final hard-bid estimates for self-perform construction work. The estimator will lead and manage all aspects of estimate development including scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality. This role will complete estimates by performing a thorough and complete bid analysis reviewing all relevant project data, facts, and information. The estimator will plan the scope of work involved in the project using reasoning, sound logic and current means and methods of construction. Estimate projects in accordance with Primoris Policies and Procedures Is assigned as Lead Estimator and is responsible for the project estimate with some supervision of the Estimating Manager. Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents. Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents. Prepares estimating takeoffs from the drawings and specifications working with Engineering and CAD designers. Analyzes regional labor rates and per diems to be used in the estimate. Obtains quotations from vendors and subcontractors for materials and performance of tasks not being self-performed. Ability to confer with engineers, vendors and subcontractors to develop Value Engineering ideas to drive project design and economics. Performs risk review and develops risk register with lead estimator. Identifies mitigation strategy for each identified risk. Leads and guides technology selection with engineering subject matter experts. Generates and reviews project schedule; engineering, procurement, construction, and client deliverables. Utilizes feedback from Project Engineering and Procurement on material lead times and design durations with limited supervision from Proposal and Estimating Managers. Has working knowledge of company unit costs, efficiencies, work instructions, and business processes. Is able to solve most problems with little to no support from the Estimating Manager. Ability to travel to project sites to understand construction sequence, means and methods, site conditions and perform time-studies. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, visiting project sites, and reviewing internal cost reports. Able to work both independently and as a team, accepting assignments from Estimating Managers and delegating to Junior Estimators. Mentors Junior Estimators to assist in their development and professional growth. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Prefer BS degree in a business or engineering disciplined program. Preference given for experience in Solar, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation Minimum of 4-6 years’ experience estimating solar construction projects Detailed knowledge of estimating fundamentals Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications with MS office application proficiency Working knowledge of estimated software programs (B2W or WinEst preferred) Demonstrated skills in written communications; ability to compose basic as well as complex technical documents, formal letters, invoices. Demonstrated skills in oral communications; ability to make presentations to large, diverse groups. Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills. General understanding of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus and Unit contract pricing mechanisms.
