We are also the world’s largest producer of distillers corn oil. JOB SUMMARY This position is part of POET Bioproducts – the POET business responsible for the marketing and logistics for our suite of distillers grains and distillers corn oil products. It is our role at POET Bioproducts to market and transport, as efficiently as possible, our high-quality products from our bioprocessing facilities to our valued customers who happen to be located all over the globe. We use trucks, trains, barges, containers and ocean vessels to make this happen. The International Compliance Manager will serve as a key contributor to the implementation of both our long-range strategies and annual goals and objectives. As such, this role will be key to leading the documentation best practices – researching import/export regulations, transportation and logistics, compliance and more. As a key partner in informing and educating stakeholders of these learnings, your role is critical to ensure we are mitigating risk as we establish and optimize our business in developing markets. With this in mind, we are seeking a candidate that possesses strong written communication skills with a strong attention to detail, demonstrated cross-functional collaboration commitment, the ability to effectively educate and influence, and excitement to navigate a fast-paced environment. DURING A TYPICAL DAY Conduct periodic audits of export activities to ensure compliance with the compliance program. Develop, implement, and maintain an internal controls and monitoring program in support of compliance with Customs laws and regulations surrounding the exportation of goods and/or technology in or out of the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and other legal and regulatory requirements related to import activities consistent with the company’s Code of Ethics. Manage all aspects of the exports compliance program, including ECCN and licensing determinations, classification according the HTS and Schedule B, evaluation of technology transfers, routed and deemed exports, anti-boycott compliance, incident management, and risk assessments in accordance with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC), and other applicable laws and regulations. Develop relationships with various functional areas involved in export activities (i.e. Sales, Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, Finance, etc.), and provide training and support to various internal stakeholders in support of the export compliance program. Responsible for EEI (Electronic Export Information) filing compliance, including Poet’s self-filings through the customs ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) system and those submitted by freight forwarders and carriers. Determine solutions and communicate effectively through challenging logistical situations. Keep current on all pertinent regulations impacting POET’s export processes. Lead for understanding and developing process for export record keeping requirements. Maintain export standard operating procedures process. Determine areas of opportunity to improve work processes and never be satisfied with status quo. You have 6 years of relevant experience in an import or export compliance role. You have an understanding of international trade terminology (incoterms, letters of credit, etc.) You have an understanding and working knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations as related to agricultural exports. You have familiarity with international transportation and logistics processes and best practices. You have the ability to read and interpret technical documents, i.e., regulations, and procedure manuals. You have the ability to effectively translate complex regulations and technical data into simplified language that cross-functional Associates can understand and act on.
