R&D SPECIALIST OPENING SANTA FE SPRINGS CA DIRECT HIRE 85-93K Schedule: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm approximately (flexible on start time) Location: This role will go between Santa Fe Springs and Long Beach locations until further notice Local candidates only please Required: BS in Food Science Required: 3 years experience in Nutraceuticals Willing to consider less experience only if candidate possesses a Masters degree R&D Specialist Job Summary: This position is responsible for supporting R&D Product Development with creating formulations and new raw material sourcing for new products. Coordinates raw material documentation needed from the supplier to support the company procedures and regulatory requirements Responsibilities: Manage the raw material properties when developing new product formulas, manufacturing processes and evaluation of alternative ingredients to meet the finished goods labeling claims. Formulates and develops products that meet the requirements of the company, customers and regulatory bodies and 3rd party certifiers. Collaborates with Quality Compliance Team on the Finished Product Documents to incorporate the knowledge of raw material quality and safety to product design and development (cGMP and HACCP). Ensure the product standards and process parameters are relative to food safety. Formulates and develops that meet the requirements for the company, customers and regulatory bodies and 3rd party certifiers. Prepares and initiates the new product formulas for conversion to MMR’s by Quality Compliance. Coordinates with Sales teams to track the activities of product development processes for efficient and on-time achievement of product launches, that include but not limited to conceptualization, formulation and prototype evaluation, optimization and standardization, material evaluation, product cost calculation, bench studies, commercial transfers to production and product launches. R&D liaison in customer calls with the sales team. Collaborate with Regulatory, Sales, QA, and QC to ensure all documentation required for the product development and technical transfers are completed within the project timelines. Support collaborative environment and teamwork in meeting organizational goals. Hands-on development to assess formula robustness for commercialization Conduct pilot and scale up testing, issue validation reports to demonstrate formula robustness. Food Safety: Report food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action: SQF Practitioner, Quality Management, Plant/Production Management, or Supervisors. Travel: May be asked to attend annual work-related shows, customer dinners or related events. Physical Requirements: See RU91 Qualifications: (Competencies, Minimum Education Requirements, Training or Experience) BS Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related fields. 3 years related work experience. Computer literacy required with proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word. Excellent verbal, communication, and written skills Attention to detail Result-oriented Self-motivated and organized Bilingual in Spanish preferred
