Job Title: Laboratory Technician 1 Location: Walpole, MA Duration: 12 months, Contract Pay Range: $21-$24/HR Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Reliability Lab Technician to join our biohazard lab team. This role is central to supporting groundbreaking research and development in our Point of Care (POC) business unit. The individual will work in laboratory setting, working with biohazardous materials testing POC devices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a meticulous approach to lab safety, technical proficiency in sample handling, and the ability to rigorously adhere to protocols that ensure the containment of hazardous biological agents and to uphold stringent safety standards and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: Support in product development Activities: Assist engineers, and scientists in running tests and experiments, including preparing reagents, setting up experiments, and troubleshooting technical issues, while ensuring safe handling of biohazardous agents. Sample Management: Safely handle, prepare, and store biological samples following standardized biosafety protocols to prevent contamination. Data Collection and Documentation: Accurately record experimental results and maintain meticulous lab records in compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. Prepare detailed reports on equipment reliability and operational integrity and assist with incident reporting and root-cause analyses when needed. Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of critical spare parts and consumables needed for equipment maintenance, ensuring necessary components are readily available. Contamination Prevention: Follow rigorous decontamination and sterilization procedures for equipment and workspaces, ensuring that all biohazardous materials are handled in compliance with biosafety levels. Quality Control and Compliance: Conduct routine quality control checks, enforce safety protocols, and assist in monitoring compliance with lab guidelines, making sure all operations align with BSL-2 requirements. Emergency Response Preparedness: Be trained in and ready to act on emergency containment procedures, should an accidental exposure or breach occur. Qualifications: Associate or bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field (Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemistry etc.) or equivalent work experience. Prior experience in a biohazard lab setting, particularly with a minimum of BSL-1 (BSL-2 is highly desirable). Strong understanding of biosafety principles, including containment and decontamination practices. Ability to follow protocols with precision and adapt to evolving safety regulations. Strong documentation skills, with experience in digital and physical record-keeping systems. Ability to adapt quickly and solve technical problems under pressure in a fast-paced research environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for accurate documentation and reporting. Proficiency with basic laboratory equipment and software for data entry and analysis. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a containment environment wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Capacity to stand for extended periods, lift objects up to 25 pounds, and follow emergency protocols as needed.
