POSITION TITLE: Executive Director (Exempt) REPORTS TO: Board of Directors SUPERVISES: Supervises employees and volunteers within the Northlands Rescue Mission POSITION SUMMARY The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of the organization and is responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing the daily operations of the Northlands Rescue Mission. The ED ensures that the shelter provides safe, dignified, and effective services to people experiencing homelessness, in alignment with the organizations mission, vision, and values. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, community collaboration, and financial acumen. The ED will possess a demonstrated ability to lead, preferably in a faith-based organizations, with a strong ability to build effective teams. The ED will have the ability to interact and effectively communicate with the Board of Directors. As a leader of a faith-based, non-profit organization the ED will have the ability to create, plan and implement new programs and initiatives to help clients become their best selves. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS LEADERSHIP and STRATEGY Develop and execute a strategic plan to meet the shelters long-term goals in alignment with the mission of the organization. Lead efforts to enhance the shelters services and programs, focusing on innovation, service quality, and client-centered approaches. Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the shelter, representing the organization to the community, donors, and local government. Foster a positive and inclusive culture within the organization, promoting staff and volunteer engagement and development. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance, including regular updates on the shelter's performance, challenges, and opportunities. OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT Oversee daily shelter operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compassionate provision of services, including housing, food, health services, and case management. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to homelessness, safety, and shelter management. Manage risk and implement policies that promote safe environments for both clients and staff. FUNDRASING and DEVELOPMENT Lead and support fundraising activities, including donor engagement, grant writing, and special events. Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential funders, including foundations, individual donors, and corporate sponsors. The ED must be comfortable making donation requests. Create marketing and outreach strategies to promote the shelters work and increase its visibility in the community. Create marketing strategies and materials while leading a comprehensive fundraising program, including annual giving, major gifts, sponsorships, grants, special events and capital campaigns with quantifiable results that meet or exceed objectives. Utilize tools and systems to manage donations and relationships with donors. FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT Develop and manage the shelters annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability. Work closely with the finance team and Board Treasurer to oversee financial reporting, audits, and compliance with funding sources. Identify and pursue opportunities for revenue generation through grants, donations, and partnerships. Ensure efficient allocation of resources to maintain and expand shelter services as needed. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT and PARTNERSHIPS Develop and maintain strong partnerships with local government agencies, social service providers, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders. Serve as a liaison between the shelter and the broader community, participating in coalitions, working groups, and public forums to advance the needs of homeless individuals. Engage in advocacy efforts that promote policies aimed at re ucing homelessness and improving shelter conditions. STAFF and VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT Hire, train, and manage shelter staff, ensuring high levels of performance, teamwork, and professional development. Develop and implement policies for staff wellness, performance management, and conflict resolution. Oversee the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers to support shelter operations and services. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Education: Minimum of a bachelors degree in business administration or non-profit management or the equivalent number of years experience. Experience: One year in non-profit management and/or experience in fundraising/development Training: Must complete a two-month onboarding process with outgoing ED PHYSICAL and COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS Ability to operate computers, telephones, and other standard office equipmen
