Human Resources Manager Role Summary Starwest Botanicals is an industry leader within the organic herb, botanical, spice, and tea industry. With nearly 50 years of experience, Starwest has grown to become a global player in the wholesale ingredient space. The company is proudly based in Sacramento, California. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Human Resources Manager to oversee and manage all HR functions within the company. The HR Manager will lead in developing and implementing HR policies, staffing efforts, ensuring compliance with labor regulations, benefits, and fostering a positive and safe working environment for all employees. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR management within a manufacturing or industrial setting, excellent communication skills, and a strategic mindset. This position is located in Sacramento, California. Key Responsibilities Employee Relations: Develop and maintain positive relationships with employees, addressing any issues, grievances, or concerns promptly and effectively. Recruitment & Onboarding: Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new employees to meet the staffing needs of the company. Training & Development: Assess training needs and coordinate learning and development programs to enhance employee skills and performance. Performance Management: Oversee the performance appraisal process, providing support and guidance to supervisors in managing employee performance. Compliance & Labor Relations: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations. Handle labor relations matters and maintain records required for legal and regulatory compliance. Policy Development & Implementation: Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that support company goals and promote a safe and productive work environment. Compensation & Benefits: Administer and monitor compensation and benefits programs to ensure competitiveness and cost-effectiveness. Safety & Health: Collaborate with the safety team to maintain workplace safety standards, conduct safety training, and support health initiatives. HR Metrics & Reporting: Track HR metrics and generate reports to drive data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. Comply with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications A minimum of 10 years of experience as a human resources leader required. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as human resources or business is required. Strong knowledge of labor laws, OSHA regulations, and HR best practices in a manufacturing or distribution setting. Proven experience in employee relations, conflict resolution, and change management. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) is a plus. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, database management, spreadsheet creation, email, internet. Supervisory Responsibilities Provides constructive and timely feedback to improve performance to various stakeholders. Oversee various vendors such as recruiters and HRIS. Physical Demands Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Travel Required Travel between company facilities within the Sacramento, CA area is required. May be required to attend training and industry events as directed by supervisor. Work Location and Reporting Relationship This position requires the candidate to be on site in Sacramento, CA daily. Work from home or remote work is not available for this position. This position reports to a member of the Executive Team.
