VDOT is seeking an experienced Equipment Repair Shop Manager to oversee our equipment repair facility. In this role, you will lead a team of skilled technicians in diagnosing, servicing, and repairing a diverse range of vehicles and heavy-duty equipment. Your leadership will ensure the shop operates efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of our customers. Key Responsibilities: Manage daily operations of the equipment repair shop. Schedule and direct the activities of repair technicians, ensuring timely diagnosis, service, and maintenance. Prioritize shop workload based on customer demands, parts availability, and workforce capacity. Collaborate with external vendors to outsource work as needed to meet operational requirements. Interface with MANCON to maintain a well-stocked Integrated Supply Storeroom, supporting fleet maintenance and repair needs. Minimum Qualifications • Ability to perform heavy manual labor. • Ability to operate various types of equipment. • Knowledge of federal, state environmental and safety regulations related to fleet management. • Safety shoes required. • Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment. • Considerable knowledge of general shop practices. The maintenance, inspection, repair of vehicles and light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment. • Knowledge of supervisory principles and policies. • Skill in the use of computers, hand and power tools, and advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment. • Ability to research, evaluate data, prepare and maintain records and reports. Additional Considerations • A combination of training, experience, or education in Automotive Repair, Equipment Repair, Diagnostics, or related field desired. • Commercial Driver' License (CDL) • Experience supervising fleet equipment service and repair operations and staff. • ASE Master Medium or Heavy Truck and Master Automobile certifications desired. • Experience repairing and maintaining automotive and construction equipment.
