Title: Associate Director of Development, Southern California Reports To: Executive Director, Southern California Location: Los Angeles, CA (minimal 1-2 days in office or in person meetings) Status: Full Time; Exempt (IC3/B7) Start Date: Immediately Salary Range*: $90,000 - $120,000 The Associate Director of Development supports fundraising strategies in the Southern California region that significantly expand the revenue base of the organization. Working in close coordination with the Executive Director and the Development Coordinator, the Associate Director of Development initiates, plans, manages, and executes fundraising efforts including donor pipeline generation, cultivation, gift solicitation, stewardship, Advisory Board activities, and fundraising events. The Associate Director of Development manages their own portfolio of donors, and is a key member of the Development team, acting as a project manager for long-term projects throughout the year, creating copy for communications, and promoting the profile and visibility of Facing History in the Southern California region. Specific Responsibilities Include:
Events (30%):
Plan, manage, and execute donor-focused events that deepen donor engagement and stimulate revenue growth. Coordinate all event logistics including communications, vendor assignments, venues, catering, and follow-up strategies. Manage budgets related to smaller scale development events. Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and management.
Donor management (30%):
Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of current and potential donors. Support donor management cycle and fundraising campaign efforts for the SoCal region. Attend networking events to develop a robust pipeline of prospective supporters.
Communications and Stewardship (30%):
Develop and implement a major donor cultivation/stewardship communications strategy. Highlight and communicate different aspects of Facing History’s work in creative ways. Write base copy for mailings and other donor-facing collateral.
Administrative support (10%):
Assist the development team by organizing and preparing for team meetings. Manage development mail and office materials.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Qualities: Demonstrated fundraising experience, including donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation (3-5 years). Demonstrated ability to plan and execute donor cultivation and fundraising events. Proficiency with Google office suite, Microsoft Office, and Canva; experience with Salesforce or other fundraising databases required. Confident and engaging relationship-building skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills. Facing History values a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture.
