Executive Director at Broadview Public Library District
A Call for Creative Leadership
The Broadview Public Library District (BPLD), located 12 miles west of downtown Chicago, is actively seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director. Broadview, a community of 8,000 residents, boasts a unique blend of small-town intimacy and the conveniences of both urban and suburban living. Broadview is known for its strong civic pride and the moniker “Broadview Strong.” In a community characterized by its balance of residential, commercial, and industrial elements, our library is a beacon of culture and learning. Our Library
Our library, a two-story, 16,000-square-foot building, underwent a significant renovation in 2020, earning the prestigious 2021 “Distinguished Buildings over $5M” award from the American Institute of Architects. Strategically located just off Roosevelt Road, our library serves as a vibrant hub of activity and learning. We are a proud member of the SWAN Consortium, connecting us to 101 libraries across the western and southern suburbs, enriching our offerings for patrons. BPLD is guided by the following core values: Access to Education and Cultural Enrichment Focus on Community Responsible Provision of Resources Inclusivity and Engagement Position Overview
As the Executive Director, you will lead our library district toward a bright and promising future. Reporting to a seven-member Board of Trustees, you will represent the library and foster connections with the Village of Broadview, Park District, local schools, and other organizations. The role is integral, especially during the annual Village Juneteenth Celebration, reflecting the library’s commitment to community engagement and cultural acknowledgment. BPLD’s status as a district library—a separate taxing entity and governmental unit aligned with the Village’s borders—necessitates a leader adept in managing complex administrative responsibilities. These include overseeing health insurance, employee retirement benefits, and board election processes, essential elements that ensure the library’s smooth operation and continued service to the community. The work environment at the BPLD is inviting, collaborative, and community-focused. As an Executive Director, you’ll find yourself immersed in a space where creativity, learning, and engagement intersect. Desired Qualities
Capable of assuming full administrative responsibility, aligning with Board policies, and active participation in Board meetings without voting rights. Demonstrated strong leadership with the ability to motivate teams and manage diverse areas including public services, facilities, purchasing, human resources, information systems, finance, and public relations. Strategic thinker with a forward-looking vision for the library, adept in budgeting, including developing and managing a $1.7 million budget, preparing the annual levy, investing reserves, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. Skilled in building consensus, fostering innovation, staff development, and delivering excellent customer service, with an emphasis on impactful prioritization. Ready to enhance the library’s role in the community by optimizing the use of updated facilities and driving the completion of strategic plans. Position Requirements and How to Apply
Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Library and Information Science or equivalent, 5-7 years of professional experience with progressively responsible work, and at least three years in a leadership role. The final candidate must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks. This full-time, exempt position offers a starting salary of $91,275,
commensurate with experience and qualifications, alongside a comprehensive benefits package that includes participating in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, generous tuition reimbursement, and parental leave. To apply, submit your cover letter, resume, at least three professional references, and any additional materials that showcase your qualifications and passion for library services to HiringCommittee@broadviewlibrary.org
