The Executive Director of Freewoods Farms is responsible for leading and managing initiatives that promote agricultural experiences and enhance the economic viability of the organization. This role involves strategic planning, program development, marketing, and collaboration with various stakeholders to create unique visitor experiences that highlight local agriculture and heritage.
Director responsibilities include:
Developing and executing the organization’s strategic plan in collaboration with other stakeholders.
Developing marketing strategies to promote agritourism offerings through various channels including social media, websites, and print materials.
Monitoring and reporting on the organization’s financial performance and making recommendations for improvements.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.
Creating and managing educational programs that promote sustainable farming practices and agritourism best practices.
Managing the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring policies and procedures are followed and regulatory requirements are met.
Hiring, training, and evaluating employees to build a talented team capable of achieving organizational goals.
Engaging in business development activities to identify potential opportunities for growth and develop partnerships with other organizations.
Staying up to date on industry trends and changes to adapt the organization’s strategy accordingly.
Managing staff to ensure the effective use and production of greenhouse, flower beds, and vegetable garden. Coordinating daily production to achieve the most efficient cost of production while meeting maximum yield and quality goals. Building and maintaining positive rapport with friends of the Farm and community partners. Instructing volunteers on basic farming skills.
Assisting with research and educational activities by following protocols and communicating effectively with South Carolina State University researchers and educators and the public.
Minimum requirements for entry into position:
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business management, tourism management, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
Proven experience in tourism development or agricultural management with a focus on community engagement.
Strong communication skills with an ability to build relationships across diverse groups. Knowledge of marketing principles related to tourism promotion is essential.
Individual will be required to develop knowledge of the Land Grant University System and the history, philosophy, organization, and the objectives of 1890 Research and Extension.
Skills Required:
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical skills for evaluating program effectiveness based on established metrics.
Proficiency in digital marketing tools including social media platforms.
Additional Application Requirements/Special Instructions to Applicants/Comments:
The individual will be housed at Freewoods Farm located in Myrtle Beach, SC, and will provide programs on the farm but will also have programmatic responsibilities as requested throughout the state of SC.
The individual must have the ability to perform duties on own initiative while receiving minimal supervision. The individual must have the ability to lift and carry farm supplies and equipment weighing fifty pounds or more on a regular basis, prolonged walking or standing, and frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching daily. Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods in extreme conditions. The hours will be irregular to accommodate agricultural and tourism needs.
The employee must be able to use good judgment in making decisions, exhibit a good working relationship with people, and be highly dependable in planning, implementing, and reporting activities. Individual must be able to relate to diverse disadvantaged rural/urban people as well as professionals. A valid driver's license is required.
