Job Summary:
The Climbing Director will oversee the comprehensive climbing program at the camp, which includes an indoor artificial wall and various outdoor rock faces up to 70 feet. This role involves ensuring safety, providing expert instruction, and maintaining climbing equipment and facilities.

Week 1: 6/22/25-6/28/25
Week 2: 6/29/25-7/5/25
Week 3: 7/6/25-7/12/25

Week 5: 7/20/25-7/26/25
Week 6: 7/27/25-8/2/25 (Dependent program finalization)
Wage:
$516.00-584.00 per week after R&B of $45.00/week
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a climbing program suitable for scouts of various skill levels, including lessons on climbing techniques, safety procedures, and equipment usage.
Conduct daily risk assessments and ensure all climbing activities adhere to the highest safety standards.
Supervise, train, and certify climbing staff, ensuring they are proficient in safety protocols and instructional techniques.
Manage the maintenance and inspection of climbing gear and facilities, including ropes, harnesses, belay devices, and the artificial climbing wall.
Create a positive, educational, and inclusive environment that encourages scouts to learn and develop their climbing skills.
Coordinate with other camp program areas for scheduling and integration of climbing activities.
Keep detailed records of equipment use and maintenance, participant progress, and any incidents.
Facilitate climbing merit badge programs and other relevant scout achievements.
Act as a role model, demonstrating commitment to scouting principles and outdoor ethics.
Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Scouting America, Orange County Council.
Submit an end of summer report.

The employee must frequently be on their feet walking and hiking for distances up to 4 miles at a time.
Employees must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
This position requires the employee to work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions as well as dust, pollen, plant life, insects, and wildlife.
Qualifications:
21 years of age or older.
Obtain NCS Climbing Director certification.
Proven experience in climbing instruction, with knowledge of both artificial wall and natural rock climbing.
Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of climbing facilities and equipment.
Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a team.
First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain before camp begins.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with youth.
Commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Available to work all summer.
Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.
Have or be willing to obtain membership in Scouting America.
Have or be willing to obtain Live Scan background check.
All camp staff must have a completed annual physical done by a medical provider prior to the start of the summer camp season.
Summer camp experience preferred.
