The Program Director for the Floyd County, Indiana Department of Parks and Recreation, is responsible for organizing and promoting recreation programs within the community. The Program Director will report directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Parks. DUTIES: Collaborates with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent on operations such as evaluation of programs and employees, coordination of recreational activities, and developing a comprehensive program of recreational opportunities for local citizens as outlined in the Department's Master Plan. Prepares and submits proposals for programs to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. Assists with planning, promotion, implementation, and record-keeping of all youth, adult, and senior adult athletic programs within the Sports Center, including scheduling games, tournaments, rentals, and maintaining accurate records of events. Promotes all facilities, oversees public relations, and manages social media for athletic programs and special events. Assists with recreational activities, camps, and special events. Prepares various reports for the Superintendent, Park Board, and others as required. Supervises part-time recreational employees, provides corrective instruction, and evaluates job performance. Recruits, trains, and recognizes volunteers, communicating department and program goals and objectives to them. Promotes recreation programs and activities among the general public, assists with publicity and weekly signboard preparation, and establishes partnerships with organizations, businesses, and institutions for collaborative efforts on mutual projects and missions. Maintains regular communication with subordinate personnel regarding Sports Center activities and program status, offering supervisory assistance as needed. Collaborates on the annual review of recreational activities and programs, maintains accurate records, and prepares and submits an annual report. Experience with RecTrac Software Programs or the ability to learn the program is required. Processes purchases and receipts for the recreation department with the Superintendent and Office Manager. Assumes the responsibilities of the Superintendent in their absence. Performs related duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS Possess a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience supplemented with at least 3 years of responsible experience in parks and recreation. Must be flexible to facilitate seasonal work scheduling, including evening, weekend, and holiday hours as scheduled with the Assistant Superintendent. Knowledge of the use of social media in Parks and Recreation promotions. Thorough knowledge of department functions and ability to direct recreational activities and operations consistent with program goals. Ability to express thoughts both orally and in writing; effective communication with government agencies, officials, employees, and the public in a courteous manner. Maintains accurate accounting of all schedules and fees in RecTrac and cooperates with the Office Manager in meeting recommendations of the Indiana State Board of Accounts. Possess certification in First Aid, AED, CPR, and Food Safety or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. BAI Archery Instructor Certification preferred. Ability to possess a valid Driver's License and remain insurable to operate Parks and Recreation vehicles. Floyd County Parks and Recreation Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
