Domestic Violence Program Director

The Domestic Violence Program Director is a vital leadership role responsible for the day-to-day support and management of the Domestic Violence Program staff. This position ensures compliance with departmental and agency-wide policies while delivering effective services to survivors of domestic violence.

Required Education and Experience

Associates degree in human services related field with extensive social science course completion, including sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or experience working with populations in crisis.

At least two years supervisory experience

At least three years’ experience in the domestic violence field

Knowledge of theories and dynamics of gender violence, strong crisis intervention skills, public speaking and community organization experience, and an open mind in dealing with diverse populations of men, women and children

Valid NYS driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Documentation Skills, Analyzing Information, Decision Making, Listening, Verbal Communication, Client Service, Building Relationships, Discretion

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google and familiar with electronic documentation of services is helpful

Ability to lift 30 pounds

Essential Functions

Manage personnel assigned to the residential and non-residential domestic violence programs, including: recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, annual performance evaluations, and on-going staff development

Oversee the day to day operations of the Domestic Violence Program

Provide both individual and team based supervision meetings with DV staff on a regularly scheduled basis

Maintain a productive relationship with various community service agencies, including: social service, criminal justice, medical, and other human service agencies by attending meetings and activities with representatives from these agencies

Attend, participate and coordinate community awareness events, educational presentations and agency outreach events, including the Domestic Violence Task Force

Fill-in for direct service staff when necessary by providing advocacy, transportation and accompaniment to social service, criminal justice, medical, housing, employment, and other agencies, and by providing information and referrals, support group, and supportive counseling to survivors of domestic violence

Fill-in for direct service staff when necessary by answering the domestic violence hotline and completing intakes with walk-in clients

Complete all progress notes, demographic trackers, and other necessary paperwork by the first Wednesday of every month

Analyze problem areas in general operations of the program and revise procedures and policies to improve service

Develop and expand advocate training manuals and procedures, including educational and case management aspects

Work to identify unmet client needs and pursue possible funding opportunities to address those gaps in services

Follow agency Compliance Plan and Standards of Conduct

Support and participate in agency continuous quality improvement activities

Other duties as assigned

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Expected work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday normal scheduled hours will be from 8:00am-4:00pm. However, hours and location may vary based on staffing and program needs, as well as rotational on-call responsibilities.

Travel

Local/community travel with Agency vehicle required.
