Compensation
– Salary $1,500 a month
Organization:
Good Grief Group is a community of volunteers partnering with children, teens and families to navigate the journey of grief and the continuation of life. Founded in 2014, the group has primarily been run by dedicated volunteers committed to providing a safe and supportive space for individuals coping with loss. Our amazing volunteers are ages 16 years old and up. Through our camps, the Good Grief Group fosters connection, healing, and hope.
Good Grief Group currently provides the following camps, with goals to add additional camps:
Children’s 4 Day/3 Night Camp for children ages 6 through 12. This camp is held in June on Flathead Lake.
Tween 3 Day / 2 Night Camp for Tweens ages 13 through 15. This camp is help in October on Flathead Lake.
Winter Day Camp for children ages 6 through 15. This camp is held between Christmas and New Years in Kalispell.
Position:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will need to lead our organization into its next chapter and strategically guide it to a sustainable future. The founder of Good Grief Camp has built this amazing organization over the last 10 years and is ready to pass the torch. The ideal candidate will be committed to upholding our mission, vision, and values while having demonstrated experience with nonprofit fundraising, event planning, and leading an organization to grow.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management:
● Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance and leadership.
● Actively engage and recruit Good Grief Camp board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders. Work with the Board of Directors to develop and support a business plan and strategy, to include setting goals, objectives, and monitoring progress.
● Work alongside the Camp Director to ensure effective progress-tracking systems, regularly evaluate camp program components, and develop success measures that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
● Attend community events as the Good Grief Group representative.
Fundraising & Communications:
● Work alongside the Board Treasurer and contracted Accountant to supervise and maintain all financial records — account for donations, manage payables, monitor/balance bank accounts and ensure the organization is filing the necessary tax/regulatory reports.
● Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion.
● Maintain and lead the Whitefish Community Foundation – Great Fish Challenge Fundraiser from the application process through the completion of the fundraiser. This is currently our biggest fundraiser of the year.
● Serve as the public face of the organization by representing it at community events, public meetings, and with the media.
● Seek and apply for additional funding through grant and sponsorship opportunities.
Planning & New Business:
● Work alongside the Camp Director to design the camp expansion and planning of the business process for program expansion into new camps (such as Teen Camp and/or Adult Grief Retreat).
● Begin to build partnerships in new markets/populations and establish strong relationships with funders and community leaders.
● Be an external local presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the kid’s grief camp program as a model for development into teen or adult camps.
Qualifications:
The ED will be thoroughly committed to Good Grief Group’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other preferred qualifications include:
● Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
● Strong marketing, public relations, and program development/ reporting fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
● Proven success in fundraising and donor relations including major gifts and grant writing.
● Strong financial management skills including budget development and oversight. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite (Gmail, Google Drive), social media platforms and Zoom or other virtual platforms.
● Candidate must live in the Flathead Valley.
● Background and experience in the field of nonprofit management, Camp administration, and Supervisory experience would be a plus.
