How your role fits into Boldt: The Director of Project Development leads the relational development of clients to gain profitable new business, while maintaining ties with existing customers. Serving as a visible and respected leader of our company, the director will regularly interact with clients, developers, joint venture partners, employees, industry trade partners and suppliers to continually position the company for project opportunities. Understanding current market trends, projections and delivery types is key to success in this role, as well as the ability to review and understand project contracts to craft favorable agreements for Boldt. The director is responsible for providing preconstruction estimating services and setting up the project team for success in terms of estimating, operational approach and overall relationship development success. Working with operating group leadership, business development and marketing professionals, the director pursues and acquires new project work within the operating group, as well as serves as a subject matter expert to other operating groups’ pursuits as appropriate. What you get to do (Essential Functions): Promote Boldt’s services, image and brand with clients, client professional organizations, and industry and trade partners. Identify, develop, and maintain strategic client, A/E (architect/engineer), developers, and industry specialist relationships. Develop a high level of understanding of Boldt clients and prospective clients. Attend defined and productive industry events, conferences, and tradeshows with the goal of growing relationships with clients and industry partners for future business opportunities. Develop and nurture deep customer relationships for shaping project pursuits and influencing project delivery. Develop strategic relationships across The Boldt Company to become familiar with and marshal other staff to advance project pursuits. Lead or assist in the company risk review process, including Bid Review documentation, to seek operating group and corporate approval. Lead Go No-Go process for pursuits. Convene and lead marketing, business development, preconstruction/estimating and operations staff to support strategic pursuits. Guide the theme and direction for proposals and presentations based on the customer relationship and acquired client intelligence. Help identify key differentiators and competitor intelligence to assist with the pursuit. Suggest project staffing scenarios. Lead interview preparations and, when appropriate, participate in client interviews. Lead the transfer of knowledge from the pursuit to operations teams, including business terms, budget, strategy, logistics. Lead the project client experience survey process. Develop strategies for post award project success, depending on contract type, owner, team, partners, etc. What we expect from you: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or related master’s level degree is helpful. Ten to fifteen years of AEC and/or professional services project development experience, including preconstruction and estimating. Demonstrated experience with professional services contracts. Effective communication and presentation skills. Interpersonal adaptability, along with the ability to communicate and connect with a variety of individuals, both internally and externally. Demonstrate critical thinking by contributing to vision, pursuit strategies and systems to achieve desired outcomes. Practice leadership by demonstrating a strong commitment to serve others, while maintaining a steady focus on outcomes. Lead change by modeling and reinforcing a continuous improvement of Boldt’s innovative culture. A valid driver’s license may be required. Individuals in this role may be subject to an annual Motor Vehicle Records check. This range represents what The Boldt Company reasonably expects to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will be dependent upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, alignment with market data and internal equity as well as other business and organizational needs. Our expectation is that the incumbent will work at our Sacramento, CA office. If the incumbent works out of a different location, the anticipated salary range is subject to change. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position for up to eight hours. The employee occasionally is required to move to access people or workspaces. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. The ability to effectively communicate is required. The employee may occasionally move up to 15 pounds. The working conditions of this position require the employee to work inside an office environment. The environment for which this position functions may contain scents and fragrances.
