Supervises the activities of the Dental Hygiene Program faculty. Prepares teaching assignments. Recruits, trains, mentors, and evaluates faculty in conjunction with the Faculty Coordinator. Determines, establishes, and implements department goals. Reviews student success rates by class and implements a plan to reduce student withdrawals. Meets with students to encourage them to stay in the program. Maintains an 80% student success rate for all classes taught in the program. Coordinates, evaluates, and participates in determining student admissions criteria and procedures. Monitors the department budget and expenditures. Makes appropriate corrections and changes to maintain a profitable program. Schedules and chairs faculty and advisory board meetings. Coordinates and arranges educational workshops and in-services for didactic and clinical faculty. Ensures didactic and clinic instruction is reflective of related Program competencies. Maintains student grades by established policies. Prepares final grades at the end of each semester to update student records and transcripts. Evaluates students' performance relating to course objectives and makes necessary provisions to meet learning needs. Coordinates with Clinical Director to ensure clinical education is practical and comprehensive. Develops and maintains a functional curriculum according to the approved design. Evaluates course content and reviews new texts. Collaborates with administration in the design and implementation of the dental hygiene program. Prepares self-study for accreditation. Performs functions of a dental hygiene instructor. Represents Pima Medical Institute at professional meetings and functions. Provides dental hygiene students with tutoring assistance as needed. Refers students to the Student Services Coordinator if assistance is beyond the instructor’s scope or at the student's request. The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). Graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Three (3) years of full-time clinical experience as a Dental Hygienist. Previous teaching experience in a program accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) preferred. Must hold a current license, certification, or another credential required by local, state, and federal laws to work as a Dental Hygienist. Instructional and administrative experience. Documented background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments. Current knowledge of the specific subjects taught. Verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and computer skills.
