Position Summary
Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics (VPIA) is the senior officer for the University’s intercollegiate athletic programs. The VPIA implements the institution’s vision for intercollegiate athletics consistent with the institution’s educational mission and philosophy. The VPIA is also responsible for creating an environment that prioritizes sportsmanship and civility, student-athlete well-being, and diversity and inclusivity. The VPIA is a strategic and visionary leader advancing student-centered extracurricular experiences and holistic wellness efforts through a lens of inclusive practice and equity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide strong leadership, creative problem solving, and strategic support for all Intercollegiate Athletic programs, including serving as a role model, team builder, and communicator while serving as strategic advisor to the President, the President’s direct reports, and Cabinet.
Ensure that the athletic program maintains a philosophy and mission statement consistent with the University vision and mission while ensuring that the Intercollegiate Athletics operates with the utmost integrity and with a culture of personal, academic, and competitive excellence and personal accountability and leadership.
Promote an inclusive environment that supports and creates a sense of belonging for all students, faculty, and staff regardless of social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender, sexual orientation, and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical, emotional and/or learning disabilities.
Effectively work with University Advancement and Marketing and Communications to identify and secure funding sources including fundraising, grants, sponsorships, and revenue-generating activities, to also include the development of funding for the Bulldog Bench Endowment Fund.
Provide strategic direction and oversight of the maintenance, construction, and restoration of athletics facilities and designs for future facility needs.
Work closely with coaches and staff to facilitate compliance, academic eligibility and success, sports information, game management, student development, community service, awards recognition and banquets, and equipment maintenance.
Collaborate with leadership across campus to ensure systems are in place to support coaches with the recruitment of student-athletes, to achieve and maintain optimum roster size for their respective sport, and to promote student retention, persistence, and outcomes upon graduation.
Prepare and manage all aspects of the athletic budget and ensure that staff and coaches adhere to the budget and their business practices with integrity.
Responsible for collaboration with the University’s Title IX and Equity Coordinator, the NCAA, and the SCIAC to promote best practices regarding applicable rules and regulations.
Attend NCAA and Conference meetings and workshops to stay current and involved in all aspects of our conference and the larger body.
Ensure student-athletes receive training to meet NCAA requirements, ensure their safety, and advocate for students by effectively promoting engagement and enriching the University experience for all students.
Demonstrate situational leadership and strong interpersonal communication skills, while navigating current issues facing students of all backgrounds.
Foster staff development and succession planning toward a culture of team strength and wellbeing, as student-facing staff are critical to supporting student wellbeing and formation spiritually, relationally, academically, physically, emotionally, morally, ethically, and personally.
Salary Range:
The anticipated and budgeted hiring salary range is between $175,000 and $200,000.
