Financial Operations (FinOps/Cloud) Engineer
supporting CMS and their Hybrid Cloud application teams to ensure value is achieved through adoption of FinOps methods, processes, and tools. As a Financial Operations (FinOps/Cloud) Engineer, our work depends on promoting FinOps principles and delivering tools for CMS and Application teams to use. HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Perform and/or support basic cost management engineering changes to cloud architecture to support application optimization and customer enablement. Perform cloud cost management that includes cost allocation strategies and governance model, cost optimization lifecycle and show back dashboarding, custom alerting and automation. Work directly with AWS and MS Azure billing, while collaborating with engineering, product, and finance teams to provide deeper meaning to cost and usage data. Be a trusted liaison between engineering and finance; helping finance understand the cost impacts of engineering operational decisions and helping engineering implement cost best practices throughout their stack. Provide stakeholders in Engineering and Product with tools to develop and measure cost related insights, metrics, and KPIs to help them better understand their products and how to build them more efficiently and minimize unusual consumption. Promote the FinOps principles which are a combination of systems, best practices, and culture designed to increase our company’s ability to understand cloud costs and manage trade-offs. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED: Education:
Relevant and related technical training, certification(s), or degree. Required Experience:
8+ years of experience in cloud operations or system administration, including 3 to 5 years of experience in Cloud, with experience as a FinOps practitioner. Required Technical Skills:
Experience working with detailed billing statements from cloud providers and dedicated tools like Apptio Cloudability, BigQuery, Datastudio, Lambda/Cloud Functions with APIs; Understanding of public cloud architecture, main services, workload types (AWS and/or MS Azure); Familiarity with Agile methodology; Experience in JIRA and Confluence. Security Clearance Level:
None Required Skills and Abilities:
Good customer service and communication skills, to include presenting to all levels of leadership; Must have good problem solving skills. Preferred Skills:
DMV residents preferred; Deep understanding of cost management optimization/analysis and FinOps principles. Location:
100% Remote USA; Must be willing to travel occasionally to the MD/VA/DC area on an as needed basis. Working Hours:
Monday-Friday 9am to 5:30pm eastern time. All resources on the program must support occasional incident/issue during non-core business hours. US Residency:

This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary.
