POSITION DETAILS AND DUTIES:
FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME AND/OR SUBSTITUTE POSITION: SIX (6), SEVEN (7) OR EIGHT (8) HOURS PER DAY; TEN (10), ELEVEN (11) OR TWELVE (12) MONTHS PER YEAR.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The job of Security Officer is done for the purpose/s of protecting the safety and welfare of students, personnel, facilities, and grounds during classroom and non-classroom activities; patrolling assigned campus buildings and grounds on foot or in a District vehicle; minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; communicating observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general well-being of students, school personnel, and/or visitors; and reporting security violations and incidents during assigned shift.

This job reports to a designated administrator.

Initial/Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduation from high school OR General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
  • One (1) year of job-related experience.
  • Any other combination of education, training, and experience, which demonstrates that the applicant is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge, or abilities, may be considered.


LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
  • Successful completion of SB 390 training and certification, which has been approved by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Bureau of Security and Investigation Services (BSIS) with the Commission of Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). Anyone employed on or after July 1, 2021, must submit proof of training and certification (Senate Bill No. 390, Chapter 475)
  • Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by an authorized agency.
  • Valid First Aid certification issued by an authorized agency.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License. Official Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history record WILL BE REQUIRED UPON OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history must be dated within the last thirty (30) days of the employment processing period. A DMV record obtained via the internet or online will NOT be accepted.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
Please note that the District reserves the right to add, eliminate or adjust testing steps and/or information on the posting at any time during the position posting and testing process. The process may include, but is not limited to, further testing inclusive of on-the-job testing, recruitment and recruitment extensions, which may be for less than fifteen (15) days after the certification of an eligibility list. As a result, there may be adjustments if reasonable or necessary.

REVIEW PROCESS:
If you would like to review your examination after receiving your test results notice, you must submit the "Examination Review Form" to Classified Personnel within seven (7) working days of the result notice date. You may obtain the "Examination Review Form" from the Classified Personnel department. It is the responsibility of the job applicant to submit the "Examination Review Form" within the designated time frame. If the requirements for the examination review are met, Classified Personnel will schedule an appointment for the review.

ELIGIBILITY LIST EXPIRATION:
Candidates who are successful in all of the screening and testing will be placed on an eligibility list. Typically, an eligibility list for a classification expires after one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one (1) year or expire sooner than one (1) year. If an eligible successfully tests for the same classification before the current eligibility list expires, the eligibility lists will merge and the eligible's most recent examination score will be applied. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure that all licenses and certifications required for this position are up-to-date to remain in the position.

SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION (Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations 50.200.4G/ ED CODE 45277): Some positions may require the ability to speak, read or write a language in addition to English. Such certification and appointment shall be made from among the highest three eligibles.

1. Pay increases: Pay increases annually on July 1 until the top step is reached. Any employee hired or promoted on or before March 31st shall be entitled to a one-step advancement on the following July 1st (PC Rule 700.200.2)

2. Paid Holidays: Up to 14 holidays per year depending on months worked for all classified employees. Additionally, classified staff-level employees may be entitled to three floating holidays (17 total holidays) to be applied during a fiscal year.

3. Paid Vacation: Vacation is prorated based on months worked per year (one day is earned per each month worked) and longevity with the District. Please refer to the chart below for vacation rates:

Classified Employee Vacation Chart:
1-4 years of service:
12 vacation days (12-month employee);
11 vacation days (11-month employee);
10 vacation days (10-month employee)

5-10 years of service:
18 vacation days (12-month employee);
16.5 vacation days (11-month employee);
15 vacation days (10-month employee)

11+ years of service:
24 vacation days (12-month employee);
22 vacation days (11-month employee);
20 vacation days (10-month employee)

4. Health Benefits: For positions 20 hours or more per week the following benefits are provided by the District for classified employees: Health, Vision, Dental, and PERS (retirement). Vision benefits are provided to all classified employees in the CSEA Union, regardless of assigned hours.

5. Paid Sick Leave: Every regular classified employee, probationary or permanent, can earn paid sick leave credit(s) based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit. Full-time classified employees (those who work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, and 12 months per year) will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave credit(s) during each fiscal year.
