The role involves proper collection and storage of specimens, explaining procedures to patients, and ensuring all processes comply with lab protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect blood and other specimens (e.g., urine, fecal) following established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles for blood draws.
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes, ensuring 100% accuracy.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test requirements.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.
- Follow all necessary protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required.
- Update patient information and manage laboratory documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist.
- Proficiency with straight and butterfly needles, and handling color tubes.
- At least 2 years of experience with blood draws and venipunctures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a clinical or laboratory setting (if applicable).
