The Phlebotomist II plays a vital role in obtaining blood and other specimens, ensuring accuracy in labeling and specimen handling, and minimizing patient discomfort.
This position is critical to providing high-quality care, maintaining specimen integrity, and supporting our commitment to patient and partner satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles, ensuring minimal discomfort to patients across diverse demographics.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, including venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine, fecal).
- Accurately label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test order requirements.
- Verify laboratory requisition forms match specimen tubes, ensuring 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature, following protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, demonstrating safety and cleanliness in specimen handling.
- Update patient information, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination tasks.
- Attend annual training sessions and provide information to patients regarding specimen collection procedures.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to respond to patient or provider inquiries.
- Proven experience with venipuncture and specimen handling.
- Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Proficiency in specimen labeling, processing, and data recording.
- Experience with a variety of collection techniques, including butterfly and straight needles.
- Previous experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
