Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Phlebotomist who excels in blood draws and specimen preparation. The ability to ease patients' concerns while obtaining accurate samples with minimal discomfort is crucial to our commitment to providing exceptional care. Principal Job Duties:
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and ensure proper specimen storage.
  • Accurately collect and store specimens (e.g., blood, urine, or fecal) following established protocols.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process to patients.
  • Proficiently use straight needles and butterfly needles to draw blood.
  • Fully understand and comply with physicians' orders for specimen collection.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and accurately label, centrifuge, split, or freeze specimens as required.
  • Ensure accuracy by cross-checking test requisitions or computer labels against physician scripts.
  • Properly package and store specimens for transport, maintaining correct temperature and protocol to preserve specimen integrity.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations regarding safety and specimen handling.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures.
  • Participate in annual department training and stay updated on procedural changes.
  • Answer phone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in phlebotomy and specimen handling.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and medical staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in labeling and recording specimens.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Excellent venipuncture technique using various methods (straight and butterfly needles).
  • Ability to maintain patient comfort and professionalism during procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in following laboratory protocols.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under time constraints.
