We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our team. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for expertly performing blood draws and preparing specimens with precision. Their ability to minimize patient discomfort while obtaining accurate samples from diverse patient populations is vital to ensuring high-quality care for our patients and partners.
Principal Job Duties:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, operate centrifuges, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination tasks.
- Collect and store specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture (blood draw) process or other specimen collection (e.g., urine, fecal) to patients.
- Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Thoroughly understand and follow all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test requirements.
- Verify that all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% accurate against physician scripts.
- Properly package specimens for transport.
- Ensure specimens are stored at the appropriate temperature, placed in the correct collection container or tube, and labeled accurately to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Participate in annual department training sessions.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
