Job Summary

The Phlebotomist is responsible for specimen collection, labeling, and processing, ensuring compliance with lab protocols to maintain specimen integrity.

This role requires clear communication with patients, accurate handling of samples, and proficiency in the technical aspects of phlebotomy procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform blood draws and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) while explaining procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes, label accurately, and prepare samples through centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
  • Utilize straight and butterfly needles effectively, ensuring proper handling and labeling of color-coded tubes.
  • Record maintenance data, conduct decontamination, and update patient information as necessary.
  • Prepare specimens for transport, ensuring samples are stored at appropriate temperatures and packaged according to guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist, with proficiency in blood draws and venipunctures.
  • Skilled in using straight and butterfly needles, as well as handling color-coded tubes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate labeling and specimen integrity.
  • Effective communication skills for patient interaction and explaining procedures.
