Job Summary
The Account Outreach Phlebotomist will be placed in a healthcare provider’s clinic on behalf of Valor Health to perform various modes of phlebotomy for laboratory testing in accordance to established blood collection standards and practices, interface with patients in a friendly and safe manner, and collaborate with the Laboratory team at Valor Health to provide quality care for patients by ensuring specimen, testing, and documentation integrity. This position represents Valor Health and is responsible for creating great customer relations, solving problems, and escalating items through the proper channels. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining long-term relationships with clients. They ensure client satisfaction, identify new business opportunities, and work closely with various internal teams to meet clients' needs. A positive professional attitude is required to show Valor Health in a positive light.
Workdays are Monday – Friday. Shifts are generally 8 hours in length and will align with the clinic’s operating hours.
Responsibilities:
- Overall client satisfaction.
- Obtains and prepares blood specimens for transport to hospital laboratory.
- Submits online test orders and/or completes paper requisitions. Completes data entry of patient demographics and insurance information into laboratory portal. Organizes incoming test results.
- Communicates with healthcare provider’s staff to ensure collection of complete and accurate information, such as diagnosis codes, insurance information, etc.
- Maintains positive and effective relations with relationships with healthcare provider’s staff, patients, and Valor Health staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Provides a basic description of the Outreach Laboratory Program to patients, including a brief explanation of billing options. Collects payments.
- Facilitates communication between providers, laboratory staff, account manager, and billing department. Maintains excellent customer service and professionalism when communicating with patients and providers.
- Delivers specimens to driver or Valor Health laboratory immediately after each shift at healthcare provider’s clinic.
- Ensures HIPPA is always followed. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information and abides by established communication code.
- Assures accurate maintenance of patient’s medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information. Maintains integrity of patient medical record while scanning documents or making changes to the patient medical record.
- Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Follows strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis while performing phlebotomy duties. Utilizes proper technique and equipment to prevent injury.
- Plans, organizes, and prioritizes work duties to accomplish daily objectives. Keeps track of and orders phlebotomy and miscellaneous supplies required for daily work.
- Solves procedural problems and makes independent decisions concerning emergent situations. Understands appropriate triage and multitasking.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and attends in-services and meetings as required.
- Completes additional laboratory project assignments in conjunction with the Regional Account Manager.
- Follows the Valor Health Code of Conduct.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing by sharing and receiving information from multiple sources.
- A high level of professionalism and customer focused behavior is required of the phlebotomist as they are the visible representatives of the laboratory.
- Knowledgeable in the performance of procedures and use of pertinent equipment.
- Fine motor skills, clear communication skills, good visual acuity, and physical mobility.
Qualifications:
- Must be certified to perform phlebotomy.
- 2+ years’ experience performing phlebotomy services.
- Experience providing customer service in a medical setting preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing and coding preferred.
Work Environment:
- Primarily indoors, occasionally in vehicles. Indoor environment comprises the designated phlebotomy space in the healthcare provider’s clinic.
Working Conditions:
- Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Potential exposure to biohazardous specimens. Potential exposure to sharps. Potential exposure to electrical hazard. Occasional prolonged standing, moderate amounts of stooping and bending, occasional lifting of not more than 20 pounds.
Physical Requirement:
- Sitting, standing, walking, stooping, use of computers, use of all forms of phlebotomy equipment, lifting, reaching, walking, hand-eye coordination, repetitive motions, speaking clearly, and adequate hearing.
