Inpatient Phlebotomists perform high-volume invasive procedures to collect blood specimens for laboratory testing on high-acuity patients in complex inpatient units and nursing home to support clinical care and patient progression.

+ Demonstrates ability to collect and troubleshoot challenging blood collections using advanced techniques to ensure quality specimens and minimal discomfort to high-acuity patients of all ages in a complex patient care setting within the established turnaround time.

+ Provides superior customer service using AIDET patient communication while maintaining workflow.

+ Utilizes the computer system, including handheld devices, to verify patient identification, manage and pull patient lists and lab orders, review lab collection and testing information, print labels, and document appropriate collection information per policy.

+ Organizes, prioritizes, and frequently adjusts high-volume work assignments to support time-sensitive lab collections, operational efficiency, and patient care needs and the interdisciplinary team.

+ Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate timing and fasting requirements of lab draws.

+ Communicates with Nursing and Providers if unable to collect the specimens as needed.

+ Prepares and transport specimens for testing and analysis in a timely manner.

+ Demonstrates advanced technical, communication, and other administrative skills needed to work independently.

+ Maintains knowledge of quality, safety, infection prevention, and compliance programs.

+ Supports the teaching and training of others in Phlebotomy functions.

+ Works hard-to-fill shifts with weekend and holiday rotation.

+ Performs area-specific support and clinical activities.

+ In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $15.07 - $23.36 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.

Experience: 1-year Phlebotomy experience in the inpatient setting preferred.

Licensure: Certification with a nationally recognized phlebotomy organization (NHA, ASCP, NCCT or equivalent) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling by foot, bending/stooping and climbing (ladder, steps); Repetitive motion: extension and flexion at wrist. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull < 20lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
