POSITION TITLE: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: MIDDLE SCHOOL LEARNING
JOB DESCRIPTION: To provide support to administrators and staff in the Curriculum and Instruction department according to established procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
Supervises the implementation of certified staff programs/projects and the comprehensive professional development system.
Supervises the development and implementation of operational and categorical funding proposals for professional development programs for implementation of standards-based instruction.
Works with District employees to design, develop and implement professional development projects and programs.
Oversees the review and analysis of current programs and services for continuous improvement.
Supports and collaborates with Secondary Sr. Director on the district implementation of The Teacher Learning Network, and the Teacher Leader Facilitators, collaborative learning communities as a professional development model.
Supervises and manages the planning, writing, printing and distribution of publications and other staff development and curriculum/standards informational and instructional materials for the district.
Collaborates with the Senior Director of Instructional Materials and Library Media Services on the instructional materials adoption in all content areas.
Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel.
Represents APS as a member of APS/Albuquerque Federation of Teachers professional development partnerships.
Organizes and chairs advisory councils and other district groups related to professional development and curriculum and instruction.
Serves as liaison between the district and local, state and federal agencies, university, colleges, the business community, parents, private/non-private schools, interested groups and/or individuals regarding staff development programs and curriculum and instruction.
Oversees the leadership and professional development to new principals and curriculum assistant principals to implement strategic planning to accomplish District goals through school instructional program plans.
Oversees the evaluation of professional development activities for all target audiences and modification of training.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
Knowledge of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
Knowledge of adult training/staff development programs.
Knowledge of district operations and procedures.
Excellent presentation and active listening skills.
Ability to commit to continuous education and learning.
Leadership and management skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree in education or related field.
Valid New Mexico Education Administrative License.
Eight (8) years combined experience in education and administration including three (3) years of experience in the development and administration of professional development and strategic planning.
