A leading homebuilder is seeking a skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations, with a special emphasis on land development accounting and pro forma analysis. This role involves managing accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and driving compliance with internal controls and policies. The ideal candidate has strong leadership and analytical skills, a solid foundation in accounting principles, and a proven track record in the construction or real estate industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee tracking and reporting of costs associated with land development projects, ensuring alignment with budgets and pro formas.
  • Manage the monitoring of land acquisition expenditures and development of cash flow projections for various project phases.
  • Ensure accurate cost tracking and allocation in collaboration with project managers.
  • Lead the analysis of pro forma budgets to evaluate performance against financial models and recommend adjustments.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring timely completion of tasks and professional development.
  • Provide guidance on accounting procedures and support cross-functional collaboration.
  • Manage the workflow for journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Ensure the accurate preparation of financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review and analyze budget and forecast data, providing strategic insights to senior management.
  • Drive financial accuracy by identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Lead the preparation for external audits, ensuring timely and accurate submission of documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and best practices.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard assets and improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance financial operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong background in construction, real estate, or land development accounting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems; experience with project-based accounting systems is a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in financial modeling and variance analysis.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities with excellent communication skills.
