Job Description
Sterling Organization is seeking an Assistant Controller – Private Equity for its corporate headquarters in West Palm Beach, FL. The Assistant Controller, Fund Accounting will be accountable for ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of multiple real estate private equity funds, as well as the related internal and investor reporting requirements and information requests. This person should have strong attention to detail, a high aptitude for problem solving, and have strong process and systems orientation. Time management is critical, as priorities and responsibilities shift very quickly, on top of the regular monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and reporting requirements. Sterling is in a period of rapid growth based on new funds being raised, so the individual must be able to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
RESPONSIBILITES AND AREAS OF OVERSIGHT- Accurate and timely financial books and records for the company’s investment vehicles
- Accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and associated reports
- Reconciliation and review of quarterly capital account statements inclusive of maintaining waterfall models, gross and net IRR’s, and associated partner allocations
- Manage processes for capital calls, distributions, and related investor correspondence
- Maintain line of credit balances and associated cash forecast for the Funds
- Preparation and review of quarterly investor-level questionnaires
- Evaluate and continuously enhance existing procedures related to the Fund Accounting department
- Continuously explore technology-based solutions for investment management platform and accounting, providing paths to increased efficiencies where applicable
- Initiate and manage procedural changes where necessary and take ownership of all relevant processes
- Manage audit processes for existing eight and any future funds
- Ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned
- Minimum of a BS in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred, MBA is a plus)
- 8-15 years of relevant experience in Fund Accounting, experience with top 10 CPA firm desired
- Knowledge of closed-end fund structures (subsequent closes, capital calls, distributions), PE fee structures (management fees, carried interest), private portfolio company investment transactions, and valuation approaches
- Experience with Investment Company Accounting (Fair Market Value, GAAP Accounting, Etc.)
- Working knowledge of a PE Accounting Ledger and associated systems, Yardi system experience desired
- Systems implementation experience is a plus
- Focus on service and quality of information for internal and external clients
- Ability to multi-task and reprioritize
- Team-oriented mentality
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
