Position Type: Auxiliary/Transportation / Bus Driver Date Posted: 4/24/2024 Location: Herb Rehmann Auxiliary Complex - Transportation Date Available: 2024-2025 Closing Date: Open until filled Job Title: Non-CDL Driver Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt Dept./School: Transportation Department Pay / Grade: BN / Starting at $16.50 Reports To: Transportation Supervisor Days/Dates: 181 GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Operate a fourteen (14) passenger school bus and/or other non-CDL vehicle/bus and all related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation for students and other authorized persons to and from schools and other designated locations. As applicable, this position is for new bus drivers working towards their CDL license and is a temporary assignment until the CDL is obtained. QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to pass alcohol/drug tests and annual DOT physical test. Ability to complete required bus driver safety training. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Effective communication skills. Ability to manage student behavior. Ability to operate motor vehicles. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Clear and valid Texas driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age. Employee will have 45 days from time of employment to obtain CDL. (as applicable and depending on route). EXPERIENCE: None required. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Operate a fourteen (14) passenger school bus and/or other non-CDL vehicle/bus on an assigned route in transporting children to and from school, as well as related activities, in a safe, timely manner. Maintain, read and understand route sheets including time changes, and notify supervisor immediately of any requests for changes. Maintain scheduled route to establish time and mileage as best as possible. Exercise student management through correct use of communication and discipline, and report discipline problems to school officials using a written referral form. Maintain good work habits through timelines and low absenteeism for daily assignment and extra trips. Properly care for vehicle and its component parts as prescribed by the district to minimize wear and to extend its useful life. Operate the bus two-way radio or telephones correctly and according to district policy. Inspect each vehicle before and after each trip using procedures and complete all necessary forms and reports. Operate the bus/vehicle and stop to allow passengers to board and disembark using safe and responsible procedures Keep bus/vehicle clean and orderly with daily cleaning after each route operated. Maintain a presentable appearance which includes being properly dressed according to district standards, neat grooming, and good hygiene. Maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, parents, students and school personnel, always promoting district goodwill. Must be able to fuel bus in accordance with department standards. Control emergency situations in a proper manner and in accordance with Transportation procedures. Complete bus evacuation drill once in the Fall and once in the Sprin Control driver book, vehicle keys, pre-trip and inspection forms, field trip form and headcount forms while in possession, and turn in to dispatch as required. Attend all required in-service training, safety meetings, and other required meetings and training. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving and criminal background that reflects a professional driver and which meets all local, state and federal requirements. Must be able to submit to substance abuse testing as required by the district and able to meet or exceed the annual state required physical examination. Must be able to meet or exceed the annual DOT physical examination. Perform other assigned duties as assigned in an efficient and cooperative manner. EQUIPMENT USED: .Operates school bus or other non-CDL vehicle/bus; two-way radio; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, staff and community members; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students; ability to deal with life threatening emergencies. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual sitting, reaching, climbing, walking, and repetitive hand and arm motions; ability to operate motor vehicle; exposure to possible injury due to traffic accidents; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, vehicle fumes and liquids including fuel; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours. Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling. Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching; limited light lifting and carrying weight on a daily basis.
