Executive Director Job Description (FULL TIME)
Introduction
SoCal Adaptive Sports, formerly Palms to Pines Parasports, exists to create a more inclusive society by providing competitive and recreational opportunities for people with physical disabilities while also serving athletes with other disabilities. We strive to foster a lifelong passion for wellness and help everyone reach their full potential. Our vision is to see adaptive athletes enjoy the same opportunities and quality of life as their able-bodied peers.
Incorporated in California in June 2020, SoCal Adaptive Sports operates through collaborations between public, private, and non-profit organizations and individuals. The organization was founded in response to the lack of consistent sport opportunities and the need to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities across Riverside County and other Southern California communities.
Position Purpose
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for overseeing all operational, financial, and strategic functions of the organization. The ED serves as the public face of the organization and provides leadership and direction to fulfill SoCal Adaptive Sports’ mission. This individual must have strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to develop strategic partnerships and motivate the team.
In addition to managing overall operations, the ED is responsible for all fundraising and grant writing activities, ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization. The ED will also have coaching responsibilities, helping to lead and support adaptive sports programming as part of the organization’s activities. The goal is to lead the organization toward achieving its mission while maintaining a high standard of operations and service to the adaptive sports community.

Board President and Executive Committee
Supervises:
Staff (as hired) and volunteers
Compensation:
$27/hour, based on a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, plus a travel stipend
Key Responsibilities
Coach a variety of sports
Develop and implement strategies to promote the organization’s mission and “voice.”
Create comprehensive business plans to achieve the goals and objectives set by the Board of Directors.
Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing and relationship-building with potential donors, sponsors, and stakeholders.
Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance, coaching, and support to staff and volunteers.
Oversee budget development and fundraising investments in collaboration with the Board’s Sustainability Committee.
Foster partnerships and collaborations to promote adaptive sports.
Hire, train, and manage staff, ensuring they align with the organization’s mission and objectives.
Ensure all activities comply with organizational policies, legal requirements, and established best practices.
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and external authorities.
Serve as the public spokesperson for SoCal Adaptive Sports, representing the organization to enhance its profile.
Review financial and operational reports to assess organizational performance and address any identified issues.
Lead crisis management efforts when necessary.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required
Proven experience (10+ years) as an Executive Director or in a senior managerial role, preferably within the non-profit or adaptive sports sector.
Demonstrated success in fundraising and grant writing.
Experience in developing and executing strategic plans.
Experience in playing and coaching a wide variety of sports.
Strong understanding of financial management and performance metrics.
Knowledge of corporate governance and management best practices.
Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a capacity for creative thinking.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and team-building abilities.
Strong communication skills, including public speaking and written communication.
Master’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
