Position Summary

The Sr. Director, Operations will oversee the management of region-based operations and will be responsible for achieving optimum labor and the least amount of overhead and resource costs for their assigned operations. This role will oversee maximum efficiency in the design and output of processes and teams and ensure deliverables meet customer’s service needs and financial benchmarks. The Sr. Director, Operations will formulate and recommend policies and programs that guide the Company in maintaining, retaining, and growing its competitive position and profitability while directing activities so that approved deliverables are completed on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Providing day-to-day leadership and management that reflect the company’s core beliefs and purpose for the assigned region

Manage district and location managers to ensure deliverables are achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner

Execute deliverables to meet business goals and objectives, contributing to profitability

Ensure the measurement and effectiveness of all internal and external processes; providing timely, accurate, and complete reports on the Company’s operating condition

Executing the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes

Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within their profit centers

Represent the Company by building and maintaining relationships with clients

Ensure standards for quality, client expectations, and operator performance are maintained, utilizing cost-effective technology and processes to maximize production

Develop, monitor, and report operating costs within functional areas; alert the VP of Field Operations to cost and labor overruns; and recommend and implement solutions

Ensure deliverables meet needs, specifications, and quality standards

Advise managers on labor issues such as safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, grievances, and the like; ensure managers and supervisors comply with company policies and administer practices fairly and equitably

Effectively manage and maintain the budget while controlling expenses

Maintain and monitor compliance standards for motor carriers within their respective region, account or area of responsibility

Hire, train, develop and appraise staff effectively; take timely corrective action as necessary in accordance with company policies

Stay current on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to foster innovation and ensure compliance

Manage logistics services

Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience

5+ years of industry experience

5-7 years of experience managing multiple locations across a medium to large geographic region

5-7 years of experience in Final Mile Delivery, including managing operations and a network of Contract Carriers

Direct responsibility for financial results in a district or regional operations role

Knowledge of industry standards, human resources laws and regulations, and strong employee relations skills

Proficient in PC applications with the ability to present functional specifications to IT department

Ability to complete work accurately, thoroughly, and on time, with attention to detail

Effective verbal and written communication skills with superiors, colleagues, and external stakeholders

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and foster constructive working relationships
