GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed. This section provides a broad description of the role and its purpose as well as the reporting structure.
Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and Research Lab Manager, the Program Manager position involves working in a fast-paced computational neuroimaging lab. The lab is comprised of faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and research assistants from different backgrounds including Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Computer Science, Math, Physics, and Biology. Using these different backgrounds, the lab develops and maintains software to analyze MRI data and performs cutting-edge research in a variety of domains.
The Program Manager (PM) will play a key role in research program administration, including supervision of staff, research activities, and training, in addition to managing and/or contributing towards a designated portfolio of individual research projects. The Program Manager will be responsible for participating in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of programs and procedures to maximize efficiency, safety, and productivity, as well as act as a resource for investigators, lab members, and administrators. Principal duties may vary over time with project demands.
The Program Manager will provide managerial, logistical, and administrative direction for the lab. The Program Manager will need to exercise professionalism, have excellent communication skills, and be able to implement a vision for sustaining and growing the lab using all available resources.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research Coordinates and manages research projects. Along with the PI, makes final decisions concerning prioritizing projects, work, and deadlines. Reviews research methods and results from current projects. Makes recommendations for improvement and guides further research. Interacts with potential collaborators outside of the lab to build relationships and help foster new research projects. Support the execution of projects as required for the achievement of project goals. Data & Records Management Writes training manuals and documentation for ongoing research projects. Writes and/or reviews grant applications. Maintains lab intranet website and LabArchives records. Management of IRB submissions, including preparation and submission of protocol applications. This may also include assisting with protocol development, consent writing and preparation of recruitment and other study materials as required. Ensures research integrity, including data documentation and data management, by developing best practices, providing ongoing training, and monitoring for adherence. Administrative Provides key administration and support to the lab’s director(s). Organizes, hosts, and/or supports weekly lab meetings. Maintains and orders supplies for team supervising. Develops detailed objectives and project timelines for management and growth. Effectively interfaces with hospital leaders, clinicians and administrative staff and attends hospital-wide leadership meetings. Facilitates implementation of grant awards by obtaining fund numbers, activating salary assignments to grants, and other associated tasks. Responsible for developing and managing the project’s operating budgets. Coordinates with other offices to streamline various administrative procedures including recruiting personnel, visa applications, major purchases, promotions, and professional appointments. Human Resources Assists with recruitment, interviews, hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff members. Assists with or supervises orientation and ensures training requirements for new staff. Meets regularly with support staff to organize and prioritize workflow. Supervise, coach, and develop research assistants/technicians, including overseeing the annual performance review process, conducting ongoing assessments of their tasks, and providing feedback. Supports the developmental efforts of personnel. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Ability to clarify and distill complex issues to a variety of stakeholders. Skilled in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency of research operations and subsequently execute improvements. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interaction at all levels of many different organizations and audiences. Ability to effectively supervise and train staff. Ability to perform multiple tasks independently, manage their time well, and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work well on a team and enlist others’ support in achieving objectives. Candidate should be able to show initiative & confidence in making decisions. Ability to work independently and improve the quality and efficiency of their own work. Candidate should be prepared to work evenings and on weekends to oversee some experiments, including being on call during weekends to respond to technical problems. A sound degree of computer literacy & willingness to advance computational skills independently (for working in our UNIX environment, scanning, and data processing). Strong leadership and program development skills. Ability to be highly self-directing, resourceful, professional, timely, and organized. This role also requires an individual who can follow standard operating procedures while working independently to consistently produce high-quality work. Supervisory experience required. EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields such as Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, Computer Science, and/or Engineering. EXPERIENCE:
3-5 years of experience. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Direct: 3-6 research technicians, 15-20 summer interns. Indirect: 6 research technicians. Professional Staff Supported: 16 faculty members and 12+ postdocs to support. Non-Employees: varies by season; up to 20. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Assistance managing lab and grant budgets as needed. Budget size varies. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position involves working in a fast-paced Computational Neuroimaging Lab. The lab develops and maintains software for MR image analysis and works primarily in a UNIX computer environment. The employee will work in a general office environment, wet lab environment, and MR scanner environment. The employee will work with big machinery (MRI) and wet lab machines, such as a microtome. S/he will be exposed to various histology chemicals as well as formaldehyde at levels that are not significant enough to even come close to challenging recommended safety levels.
