Essential Job Functions and Duties:

  • Inspection and Diagnostics:
  • Conduct routine inspections of heavy equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot problems and determine the root cause of malfunctions.
  • Repairs and Maintenance:
  • Perform necessary repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and other components of heavy equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is in good working condition and minimize the risk of breakdowns.
  • Welding and Fabrication:
  • Utilize welding and fabrication skills to repair or replace damaged parts and components.
  • Ensure that welding and fabrication work meets industry standards for safety and quality.
  • Documentation:
  • Maintain detailed records of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Document parts usage and maintain an inventory of spare parts and equipment.
  • Safety Compliance:
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working on heavy equipment.
  • Keep abreast of industry safety standards and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and equipment operators regarding the status of repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Provide clear explanations to operators about the nature of equipment issues and required repairs.
  • Training and Mentoring:
  • Provide guidance and training to junior mechanics or apprentices.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and equipment advancements, sharing knowledge with the team.
  • Emergency Repairs:
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair calls, ensuring rapid and efficient resolution of critical equipment failures.
  • Customer Service:
  • Interact with equipment operators and other stakeholders in a professional and customer-focused manner.
  • Address concerns and inquiries related to equipment performance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education or certification in heavy equipment mechanics is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, with a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
