The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Equipment Operator II.

This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly rate TBD. The position is part of the Public Employees Union (PEU) collective bargaining agreement. This position will work at Public Works - Solid Waste & Recycling Division located at 1880 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33461.

Pay Rate: TBD based on qualifications and experience

SUMMARY:

The individual in this position will perform semi-skilled work in the operation of rear load garbage truck, automated side load garbage truck, grapple truck, packers, and/or trash truck. Heavy manual labor in the collection and disposal of all types of solid waste garbage, trash, and recycling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Functions as a driver or collector on a Solid Waste and Recycling collection crew.
  • Use of pitchforks, shovels, brooms, blowers, litter picker, bucket and similar hand tools in the general clean-up of garbage, trash, vegetation and construction material from curbside and other areas.
  • Rides and/or drives truck during scheduled routes.
  • Assist the driver in backing into tight areas.
  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections and washing & cleaning of equipment daily.
  • Works with co-workers in the pickup and disposal of garbage and recycling.
  • Assist other routes when needed.
  • Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of modern practices, methods, and equipment used in the collection and maintenance of Solid Waste and Recycling.
  • Knowledge of the laws and ordinances regulation the operation of vehicles and the occupational hazards and safety precautions in operating equipment.
  • Ability to report minor repairs and adjustments to service garage.
  • Must be able to operate rear load garbage truck, automated side load garbage truck, grapple truck and Packer truck or trash truck.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Ability to read, write, and understand written and oral English instructions. High School Diploma or must be able to obtain GED within one year of hire.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

Must possess valid and current Florida CDL Class "B" Driver's License.
