This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Director at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg oversees the development and operations of the sports programs, ensuring the programs meet intended goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities. Recruit, train and develop part-time program staff and volunteers. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other community organizations. Manages the sports programs including sports and specialty camps during the summer months, home School P.E., RISE, Church Leagues, and Adult Sports (Basketball, Volleyball, indoor Soccer). Monitor the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; securing, scheduling, and maintaining the needed fields and facilities; creating and scheduling the activities or events; and maintaining and/or updating and transporting program equipment for games and practices. Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Maintains staff schedules and evaluates staff performance. Organizes or participates in Y activities, such as committees, special events, and fundraising. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Assists with Program Committee meetings. Performs other duties as assigned to include assistance with other facility programming and outreach.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience. YMCA Team Leader certification preferred. One to two years related experience preferred. Within 60 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training. Completion of YMCA program-specific training. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
