PROJECT CONTROLS SPECIALIST
The Select Group is hiring a Project Controls Specialist for our Telecommunications clients. This position will sit 100% Remote, with occasional travel.
The client is focusing on the intricate process of establishing data centers, managing real estate, and securing essential utilities to support its expanding infrastructure.
Must Have Skills:
5+ years of experience in project controls or similar roles
Experience in construction space or real estate projects (commercial experience only, not open to residential construction experience)
Familiarity with land acquisition, utility management, and contract negotiation
Expertise in project management software
Experience with cost management, budget tracking, and financial reporting
Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM)
EVM is a system that integrates the project, schedule, & cost parameters into one
Strong communication skills, collaborative & proactive mindset
Nice to Have Skills:
Utilities and/or Civil Engineering
Accounting / Finance experience
Project controllers should have a background in accounting and finance, including contract administration, and proficiency with project management and financial tools. They should also have a deep understanding of project management methodologies, such as Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches.
Day to day responsibilities:
Develop and manage detailed project schedules, budgets, and forecasts aligned with infrastructure and land acquisition milestones.
Track and report on project performance using EVM and other metrics to ensure budget and timeline adherence.
Coordinate with real estate, utility, and engineering teams to monitor land acquisition and infrastructure progress.
Monitor utility negotiations and infrastructure projects to address any potential delays or risks.
Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams to align on timelines, budgets, and delivery schedules.
Manage change control processes and maintain accurate project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide financial reports and assist with audits as required, ensuring compliance with cost management procedures.
Ensure compliance with accounting guidelines and drive accounting compliance.
Ensure adherence to commercial contract terms and manage customer contract changes.
Manage construction subcontractors and other suppliers to maintain project quality and delivery timeline.
Work with project managers to provide transparency on project performance against budget.
Ensure accurate project forecasts that incorporate known risks and opportunities.
Organize project reviews throughout the life of each contract, including coordinating the close-out process.
Evaluate project progress, track day-to-day activities, and prepare status reports.
Determine resource needs, ensure availability, and place orders to avoid delays.
Monitor project costs against the budget, ensure invoices are paid on time, and track cash flows.
Manage electronic document management systems, ensure compliance with procedures, and monitor contractor documentation.
Build and maintain open lines of communication and avenues for knowledge sharing.
Other responsibilities of a project controller include:
Defining the work scope.
Preparing overall schedules and budgets.
Complying with and promoting compliance with company and project specific procedures.
Working with contractors to develop, implement, and improve key document management processes.
Encouraging improved and consistent information management.
