Job Description
Scrap Metal Services, L.L.C., a scrap metal recycling and processing company, seeks a Master Mechanic for its Mill Services site in Burns Harbor, located at Cleveland Cliffs Steel Mill. The Master Mechanic will manage diesel, hydraulic and electric mobile equipment, including but not limited to haul trucks, loaders, material handlers, support equipment and shredders. Expertise should extend to diverse systems such as air compressors, fuel systems and gear boxes.

- Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Perform thorough routine maintenance on machinery, equipment, and systems.
- Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components.
- Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery.
- Manage parts inventory.
- Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance system.
- Keep logs of work and report on issues.
- Monitor equipment for appropriate usage.
- Ensure adherence to Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance policies.
- Ten (10) years of mechanical maintenance experience preferred.
- Five (5) years of mobile maintenance experience preferred.
- Five (5) years of manufacturing/heavy industrial work setting preferred.
- Strong diagnostic and repair skills with diesel and hydraulic heavy mobile equipment.
- Ability to read and understand equipment service manuals.
- Commitment to working safely and to standards required.
- Strong computer skills preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, team orientated, work with minimum supervision and lead by example.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment breakdowns.
