The Army Modernization Department is at the forefront of transforming how the Army develops and delivers capabilities to warfighters. The Department includes support to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology (ASA(ALT)), Army Futures Command (AFC), Army Research Lab, the Army G8, and the Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO). The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technical Lead will lead technical teams in developing policy solutions for ASA(ALT) and other cross DoD sponsors. Major focus areas will include shaping AI policy, working with Army Program Offices to assess their state of AI readiness, as well as the shaping of AI tasks across the Army Modernization Department, the Army Division, and the MITRE National Security Engineering Center. Roles and Responsibilities: Lead MITRE technical teams in solving AI challenges for the Army, primarily regarding policy. Advise Army sponsors on policy matters regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) to include tools, techniques, infrastructure, and execution guidance. Assess the state of readiness of Army program offices to build and deploy AI capabilities at scale. Provide technical recommendations to the Army on the development of a data-centric ML/OPS data ecosystem to enable AI capabilities. Coordinate and collaborate with Army and DoD offices on AI policies. Basic Qualifications: Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or PhD with 3 years of relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related experience and work experience. Ability to obtain a Secret clearance. Strong knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Systems Engineering. Army or DoD acquisition experience with AI. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to interact with sponsors, including helping to set the project direction, briefing results, and developing and presenting analytically based conclusions and recommendations. Willingness and ability to work onsite with sponsors at the Pentagon or sponsor locations in Aberdeen, MD. This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence at MITRE or sponsor locations. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in developing AI capabilities and knowledge of the data lifecycle. Active TS/SCI clearance. Policy development experience. Experience leading small teams.
