Location: Community Place Crownsville, MD. 21032 In-person/ Telework, Hybrid

Rate: 45 - 60/ hour

Background: The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking a skilled Business Process Engineer to support our data services organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optimizing business processes, streamlining workflows, and enhancing operational efficiency. This individual will play a key role in analyzing our current processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategic solutions to drive productivity and performance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing business processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, analyze workflows, and develop solutions that align with organizational objectives.
  3. Design and implement streamlined processes, procedures, and workflows to optimize efficiency and productivity.
  4. Utilize industry best practices and methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) to drive continuous process improvement initiatives.
  5. Develop clear documentation, including process maps, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials, to ensure effective knowledge transfer and implementation.
  6. Work closely with stakeholders to facilitate change management efforts and ensure successful adoption of new processes.
  7. Monitor and evaluate process performance metrics to track improvements and identify further optimization opportunities.
  8. Provide guidance, training, and support to project teams throughout the process improvement lifecycle.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Business, Human Resources Management, or a related field. MBA preferred.
Required Experience:
  1. At least eight plus (8+) years of IT and business experience in business process engineering.
  2. At least 5 years in a combination of the following: business process improvement, process analysis and design, data analysis and interpretation, business operations, and process management.
  3. Specific experience with successful engagements within a cross-functional environment.
  4. Excellent analytical, verbal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  5. Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
  6. Ability to analyze data and make recommendations for improvement.
  7. Strong understanding of business operations and processes.
  8. Experience with business process management software and tools.
  9. Prior domain industry experience at a state or federal government agency is preferred.
Preferred Experience:
  1. Knowledge of state government policies and practices is preferred.
