The Director of Project Management is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving
Modea's
project management practice to new heights. As a key member of the leadership team, you'll oversee the entire project management function, including team performance, portfolio delivery, and strategic direction. Your responsibilities will span: Setting standards and strategic direction for the project management practice Executive account management and client relationship development Portfolio oversight and hands-on management of critical projects Team development, coaching, and performance management Budget management and financial performance of the project management department In this role, you'll leverage data-driven insights and extensive experience to tackle complex challenges, advise team members, and drive successful outcomes. You'll align the project management team's efforts with established client engagements and company strategic initiatives, playing a crucial role in Modea's overall success and growth. Practice Leadership:
Define and execute the strategy and goals for the project management practice. Directly manage all members of the project management team, conducting regular 1:1s and providing comprehensive team support. Organizational Leadership:
Serve as a key member of the leadership team, actively participating in strategic decision-making and company direction. Cultural Stewardship:
Champion and embody our core values, mission, and vision throughout the organization. Portfolio Management:
Oversee the health and delivery of Modea's Delivery Portfolio, consisting of strategic, high-priority, complex digital product development engagements. Executive Account Management:
Develop and maintain executive-level client relationships, ensuring satisfaction, identifying growth opportunities, and representing the company at the highest levels. Financial Management:
Own and manage the project management department's budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation and financial performance. Continuous Improvement:
Drive best practices, standards, and continuous improvement in project portfolio management (PPM) processes and methodologies. Team Development:
Direct, manage, coach, and mentor a high-performing team of project managers, including hiring, performance evaluations, and accountability. Strategic Execution:
Drive the implementation of strategic initiatives across the project management function and beyond. Critical Competencies:

Bachelor's degree Project Management Professional (PMP) 10+ years in project/program/portfolio management roles, including: 7+ years in people and team leadership positions, including leading Project Managers 5+ years in a consulting environment Experience leading and growing a consulting practice or department Strong Scrum experience in digital product development Proven track record of: Building trusted client partnerships Expanding accounts and winning new business through exceptional delivery Managing executive-level relationships, including C-suite clients Demonstrated success in building and scaling high-performing project management teams and capabilities Experience managing technical projects utilizing: Agile project management practices Modern DevSecOps delivery to support enterprise systems Proficiency in managing multi-million dollar portfolios of technology initiatives with evolving scope and constraints Strong financial acumen with experience managing departmental P&L Experience driving change and growth within fast-paced companies Recognized thought leader skilled at developing creative, valuable solutions Adept at managing multiple concurrent projects and stakeholders in a complex, regulated environment Compelling presenter and communicator, able to influence audiences at all levels and functions Ability to balance multiple roles: Portfolio Manager, PM Director, Project Manager, and People Manager Commitment to on-time, on-budget, quality execution with appreciation for details Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Project Management, or a relevant technical field Additional certifications such as Prosci Change Management, ITIL Foundations, or Scrum certifications Knowledge of the healthcare industry and digital marketing Experience with HIPAA compliance and healthcare data privacy regulations Preferred Software Skills:
Proficiency in agile project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence), visual collaboration tools (e.g., Miro), time-tracking tools (e.g., Toggl), and enterprise PPM platforms Work environment: Currently, Modea is operating in a flexible working environment that best meets the needs of our team and work responsibilities. Our team has the ability to work either from home or in the office. Our office provides an indoor space with moderate temperatures and noise levels. This position can be located either at the Blacksburg, VA office or Nashville, TN office. Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position during the duration of the workday. Individual must have the ability to constantly operate a computer. Must have the ability to converse with and exchange information to clients and coworkers both in person and through a computer. Capable of transporting items of 15lbs or less to and from work.
