POSITION PURPOSE As a member of the Export Controls team, this position works with the Director of Export Controls to establish institutional compliance with U.S. export control law, specifically 22 U.S.C. Chapter 39 (Arms Export Control Act) and its implementing regulations (International Traffic in Arms Regulations or ITAR). Export Controls oversees institutional policy, procedures, and education related to ITAR, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) sanctions and embargo program. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sensitive material identification - 25% Review UW technology transfer activities that require export control compliance assessment. Collaborate with Principal Investigators or Project Leads to identify sensitive information and equipment. Personnel security - 25% Develop automated tools for screening research project personnel and external recipients to determine federal export control status. Review export control licensing needs for international visiting scholars. Sensitive material handling and storage - 25% Develop and maintain Technology Control Plans (TCPs) for the secure use, storage, and transmission of sensitive goods and information. Information management - 15% Identify, implement, and maintain documentation for tracking export controlled goods and technology in accordance with Federal and State statutes. Security education and awareness - 5% Develop and deliver export control and security education and awareness to the University community. Compliance - 5% Monitor compliance of University policies with Federal statutes and recommend revisions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or a field relevant to security and a minimum of 4 years' increasingly responsible experience in export control operations. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Significant knowledge of US export control laws and experience in policy development.
