Veterinary Technician II - Overnight Trauma Hospital


The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a dedicated full-time Veterinary Technician to join our trauma hospital team. This position will report to our state-of-the-art Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus. Location: Rob & Melani Walton Papago Park Campus

Status: Full-time hourly

Schedule: Overnights, 4/10 work schedule, 8:00 PM to 6:30 AM (shifts available Sunday-Wednesday and Wednesday-Saturday)

Reports To: Trauma Hospital Supervisor

Supervises: None

A Day in the Life:

As a veterinary technician, you will assist the operations of the Shelter Medical teams, championing AHS' core values of innovation, compassion, and excellence. You will assists veterinarians in the treatment of animals and independently evaluative animals to determine adoptability. You will work alongside the team to ensure high levels of patient care. You will be a relationship builder who collaborates with veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, and department leaders to solve problems and implement positive changes.


Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma OR GED.
  • Completion of a veterinary technician program OR 2 years of experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic. CVT not required. Education may substitute for experience.
  • Must be able to assist veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' medical services including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy and the administration of prescribed medications.
  • Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology and perform safe and humane animal handling.
  • Must be proficient in anesthesiology, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software for use with animals in shelter.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There may be occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
