Position Overview

Adult and Immigrant Services offers English language classes to members of the immigrant community, provides assistance in accessing resources and benefits for vulnerable community members, offers free legal immigration consultations, engages in community outreach for civic and voter education initiatives, and advocates alongside immigrants and low-income adults.

Sunnyside Community Services annually provides ESOL instruction to over 500 students. Our approach encompasses innovative learning strategies, a holistic approach that allows students to access internal services, and a strong commitment to social justice. We have recently developed in-house curricula for various proficiency levels, ranging from beginner to intermediate, and have designed a specialized English for specific purposes curriculum focused on health.

The Program Director, in collaboration with the Director of Adult and Immigrant Services, assumes the lead managerial role for implementing and developing the ESOL program. Their responsibilities include drafting work scopes, student recruitment and retention, monitoring and evaluation, and supervising 5-10 instructors. Additionally, the Program Director ensures appropriate referrals to colleagues or partner organizations for accessing public benefits, healthcare, legal services, or other social services. They receive support from a full-time program coordinator, a part-time data assistant, and various interns throughout the year. The Program Director's role encompasses all areas falling within the scope of Adult and Immigrant Services.

Position Responsibilities

Program Planning and Implementation

Provide oversight and ensure the efficient operation of ESOL programming, including managing work scopes, coordinating registration and orientation, and organizing field trips.

Handle participant registration, intake, and pre/post testing for the program.

Communicate effectively with students, addressing their program-related inquiries and other service needs.

Facilitate the recruitment of instructors, provide supervision, and conduct classroom observations.

Occasionally be available for evening and/or weekend classes or outreach events as required.

Assist with various tasks that may arise in support of the daily operations and growth of Adult and Immigrant Services.

Participant Advisement

Assist in managing and maintaining student contact information in compliance with the organization's confidentiality policies and procedures.

Effectively refer students to appropriate specialists within the organization or community partners, including those specialized in employment, training, access to public benefits, physical and mental health, legal services, financial services, housing, and other relevant areas.

Data Collection, Tracking and Reporting

Collect, organize, and maintain comprehensive paper and/or electronic files as required for contractual reporting purposes.

Collect, update, and maintain accurate programmatic data and resources, including daily attendance records and participant demographic information, utilizing both funder-mandated and internal databases and monitoring tools.

Create and maintain detailed progress notes for each participant, ensuring they are kept up-to-date.

Prepare for program audits and reporting by compiling necessary documentation and information.

Qualifications:

Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.

M.A in TESOL or related field, plus 2-3 years relevant experience.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Web-Based Office Suite.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.

Flexibility, patience, resourcefulness and a willingness to learn and ability to work independently and creatively.

Must have proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
